Yes, you need a license -- a business license. You'll have to keep track of business fees and taxes. No, you do not need a license to actually tie the flies commercially, but various credentials and certifications will help. Like classes or learning from particular, well-known individuals.

There are no age requirements, other than the age restrictions on doing business. I'm sure there is a minimum age to get a business license.

I don't know how much a fly shop will pay you for flies, but I know that a fly shop near me marks up their flies by more than 100 percent. Considering that they sell their flies for around 90 cents a pop, I guess that means they're paying their tier 30 or 40 cents apeice..?

Things is, you've got to tie scores and scores of dozens of patterns, and they have to be very consistently tied. If you look at the flies at a good fly shop, all the flies look almost exactly alike, they're attractive, and they're sturdy. I know three or four guys who tie commercially or have in the past (including the guy who taught me), and they're all older dudes who have LOTs of time behind a vise.

You'll need wholesale connections to buy materials -- you'll need to make each fly cost you as little as possible and make your margins as wide as possible. Finding materials of high quality at good prices and quantities will be a big challenge. If you buy your materials from ordinary places (like fly shops), you won't make any money.

You also have to be reliable and flexible. You have to be ready to go all winter with no orders and then fill big orders at other times -- if you let your shop run out of BWOs in June too many times, they'll find someone else. I was very curious about this sport for some time now. I seen it done countless times.

Tried it. Failed.

People are constantly and relentlessly, with their greater patience and understanding tried to rub some skills fly fishing on me - but in vain.

I have resorted to reading for now. I decided than anything I can do, I might as well learn - even just in theory. It helps. I think my car today, "a work underway.

Let's all learn the basics. DEFINITION OF TERMS!
A brief definition of certain terms that I need to know on the fly.

What is Fly Fishing?
Fly fishing is an ancient method and distinct angling, developed primarily for salmonids (trout and salmon, mostly) and now extended to other species such as pike, bass, and carp, as well as a wide range of saltwater species.

Fly casting is seizing or holding a fly rod correctly and adopt correct positions to maintain comfort and balance. The most fundamental rule in the casting is based on how a clock looks. Czech Nymphing - The Essential Fly Fishing Technique

Czech Nymphing was introduced in the United Kingdom in the 1990 World Championships. The Republic Czech team beat the United Kingdom's international teams in the Welsh River Dee. The Czechs caught grayling in the number of sites thought to be impossible fast or deep before. This sent shockwaves through the world of competitive fishing. The technique is now considered almost a standard - an essential part of all fishermen grayling arsenal.

Let's face it, we dream in Technicolor of size 10 green dragon hatches or Hexagenia limbata as big as beavers - but the reality is Winter Time Is Midge Time. In a fly-tying class, I once heard a famous fly local bull occurrence called something along the lines of "my second best supplier of fly tying material is Hobby Lobby. So, along with the heads of little accounts with many simple body materials trying to find a simple solution the tie. I wanted to match the hatch about recent travel to the current. As a material, yes, reindeer hair is perfectly fit for tying flies. As you say, a lot of people use it interchangeably with caribou hair. I'm sure it has its own coloration and would fit into some pattern just great.

I'm a little worried about the age -- hair gets brittle with time and exposure to air and UV light. Pests like moths and beetles can also damage the fur. If the hair still has a supple, waxy texture then it will work well. Pluck out a few hairs and roll them between your palms -- the hairs will bend and twist but hopefully they will not break into small pieces. Also, the hairs should be firmly attached to the hide -- they should not shed out easily. If the hairs break easily or if the hair is falling out of the hide, the value of this material will be limited, I think.

The best way to know is to take a sample of the fur to a fly tying shop or a friend who ties. If it checks out with someone who is knowledgeable, then you're set. I'd parse it out into fly-tying sized chunks. Animal hair usually comes on pieces of hide from 2-inches square up to maybe 6-inches square.

So, um, do I get a piece of hide for the answer? Heh heh.

In fly fishing, flies are generally divided into four types of artificial flies. (The flies are also called decoys, in some countries).

Bigger flies like streamers, can also result in a greater catch, but do not be surprised when your four inches of serpentine lands a small twelve-inch trout. Streamers can be colored artificial and have a mixture of a variety of fly tying materials.

Dry flies, wets, nymphs and streamers are effective in the right environment. The secret to get the most out of your fishing is to use different techniques and test all the time. Do not be afraid to try different types of flies and patterns, especially if the fishing is slow. So no matter which country you live in and regardless of how to classify your fly, just make sure to have several types of flies to cover all conditions for fly fishing and fish. Cavity wall is a load sharing system which use ties in specific patterns and provides extra resistance to weather conditions because of the cavity. The other main advantages of cavity walls include the thermal insulation, sound insulation, prevents moisture entering from outside and the structural stability. The material of construction or the structure of the cavity wall can vary, and the strength of these walls also depend upon the tying mechanism and tying product (wall tie) being used. Wall ties are the important member which significantly determines the stability of a cavity wall.

Builders use wall ties in cavity walls to hold the two walls together and stop them bulging or bowing. Horizontal cracking in brickwork, external rendering or building blocks can often be caused by the failure of cavity wall ties. In old properties it is common to find steel wall ties - these rust and corrode and have to be replaced. When the cavity wall ties corrode they expand to several times their original thickness, which causes the wall to crack at the mortar joints and often result in major damage and sometimes collapse of the wall.

The type and density of wall ties depends upon certain factors like the area of uncontrolled brickwork, the extent of exposure to wind, size of the cavity height of the building and the typical nature of the structure. If the wall ties used are not selected carefully, this can lead to damp penetration, the failure of the whole structure or even collapse.

If you are facing a wall tie failure, you should contact the specialist company. Their qualified surveyor will carry out a survey on the existing cavity wall ties using a metal detector, borescope and damp meter and by drilling into the wall at appropriate intervals he will view inside the cavity to check for cavity wall tie corrosion. He will also determine the extent of any external cracking and advice you of any appropriate repairs that are required or if the services of a structural engineer are needed. They will then issue a detailed report, our recommendations and estimate for all necessary cavity wall tie replacement and remedial work.

The several key elements of the wall survey includes location and approximate age of the property, width of cavity, detecting cracks and any signs of movement, cavity insulation, condition of ties, the pattern in which the ties are arranged, etc. The survey is carried by using specialist instruments like metal detectors and endoscopes, etc.

The detailed survey will help in identifying the exact problem and will provide a good starting point to combat wall ties failure problems by carefully selecting the appropriate repair strategy. The repair techniques that can be adopted may include the use of

* Structural wall ties and restraints

* Embedded wall stitching

* Strapping

* Structural Pinning

* Resin bonding or resin beam repairs – When the base material is not adequate or unable to take the stress of the mechanical member, then the resin helps in bonding the tie to the base material.

All the above mentioned repair strategies should always be carried out or supervised by a competent person as many of these require the old wall ties to be removed and replaced by new wall ties. These cavity wall ties have a unique 'tall-nut' which when turned with a setting tool, rotates the whole tie bar, forcing the inner leaf sleeve to open and grip the masonry. At a factory set torque level, the end of the 'tall nut' shears away and the remaining nut is forced down the bar to expand the sleeve and grip the outer leaf.

I get 63 900 search results for an obscure craft like DIY fly tying and the search results include 'how to build a flexible fly tying bench', 'how to make the Gorilla fly', 'DIY fly tying station', DIY fly tying techniques', and of course many others too. So no matter how eclectic your tastes or obscure your DIY passion, you will find plenty of free information online.

While we are still on the subject of fly tying, I had to take a look at a 'Gorilla fly' and no it is not a cross between a giant ape and a lacewing fly, it is actually an eight and three quarter minute long You Tube video that graphically shows you how to tie flies, it is amazing, fascinating and I don't have the least interest in DIY, or tying flies.

No matter what your wildest DIY dreams are, you will find any and all the information you need to know, online, and absolutely free. If you progress into the more sophisticated techniques of whatever field you have chosen, then you may reach a point where it would be wise to purchase instructional material.

I a mean no person with half a brain is going to pay for all the equipment they need to install solar heating panels and not pay for fully comprehensive instructions to DIY this. It would be insanity, there are some things you cannot afford to fly by the seat of your pants on. Certainly you may have access to the basics to get started and hone your skills, but for more complex techniques and to improve on those skills; perhaps a small investment would be a wise idea.

If you do decide to DIY, it takes a little time and patience until you master the craft, so don't give up, keep DIYing and you will get what ever it is you want out of it.

There are books that tell you specificlly what materials to use. i would go to a fly shop or a book store and find some books. i also reccomend 2nd hand book stores. u will find many out of print and cheaper books that r just as good. since you have the tools already u wont need a starter kit. if it is possible return the tools and buy a starter kit which has all the materials and a small book or video. i believe cabelas may be able to help you with ur tying needs and they offer many types of kits.

There are so many wonderful possibilities out there for excellent winter art projects and crafts. There are basic winter art projects and crafts like cutting out snowflakes or drawing Santa Claus, but there are also many other fun and interesting ones, as well. You can use your own ingenuity to get yourself started. You can even pose the idea of interesting winter art projects and crafts to your students or children – you may be surprised at what creative ideas a child can think of.

Here are some fun ideas for some great crafts, organized by the supplies that you may want to use.

Cotton balls and gauze

Cotton is a very useful tool when it comes to winter art projects. If cotton balls were just a bit colder, they would seem exactly like mini snowballs! A child can draw a wonderful winter scene and then take cotton balls and rip them and fluff them and glue them down in places where snow should be. Or, maybe a child may want to draw two people having a snowball fight – the cotton balls are already in great snowball shapes as is.

Marshmallows

What is winter without marshmallows? Marshmallows are added treats in hot chocolate, but they are also great to use for winter crafts. A child can take three giant marshmallows and stack them on top of each other to make a mini and tasty snowman. Toothpicks can be used to hold the marshmallows together and also as arms. Mini marshmallows can make fun snowballs when attached to winter collages.

Plaster of Paris

Plaster of Paris can be used in so many fun ways, not just for winter crafts. One way that plaster of Paris can be used is to make “footprints in the snow.” You simply need to fill a box lid or some negligible item with plaster of Paris. Once it settles and dries a little bit, students can make all different footprints in the “snow.” They can use the side of a fist to make footprints that look like a baby’s footprints, or they can draw in footprints of birds or other animals.

Pine Cones

Birds that stay in places all through the winter need food. One winter craft that students can do is to make a pine cone bird feeder. Students simply need to cover a pine cone in peanut butter and dip it in bird seed. After tying a bit of string to one of these pine cones, it can be hung up on a tree outside. These pine cone bird feeders do not just feed the birds, they act as beautiful ornaments for an outdoor tree.

Glitter

Glitter can be added to make any basic winter art project even more fancy and beautiful. For instance, a child can cut a snowflake out of paper and then add silver glitter to make it even better.

"What is it for?" is asked so often that one realizes utility is the first requisite of a basket. Strong and well-made and adapted to its place in the household it must be, and it should be beautiful and harmonious as well.

String Basket of Orange and Black Rattan

Materials:

16 24-inch pieces of No. 2 orange rattan,

9 or 10 weavers of No. 2 orange rattan,

3 weavers of No. 2 black rattan.

Sixteen twenty-four-inch pieces of No. 2 orange rattan are arranged in the centre, shown in Figure 1. The four-row beginning is woven, and when the centre is four inches in diameter the sides are rounded up, flaring them outward decidedly for an inch and three-quarters. An inch more is woven, drawing the spokes in gradually more and more and the spokes are bent in toward the centre. Two weavers of black rattan and one of the orange are then woven in four rows of triple twist, drawing them tightly. The ends of these weavers are cut about half an inch beyond the point on the circumference of the basket where the triple twist was started, and after wetting them until pliable each is run down between the weaving beside a spoke.

The border is made as follows: In the first row each pair of spokes is brought over the next two pairs, under the next pair and outside. The ends are drawn tightly, making the border open. In the second row each pair of ends is brought over the next pair of spokes and inside, where they are cut so as to allow each to lie against the pair of spokes in front.

Duster Case

Materials:

6 36-inch pieces of No. 2 rattan,

2 or 3 weavers of No. 00 rattan,

6 large dark-blue beads,

6 large iridescent beads,

A Japanese duster with silk top.

A Japanese duster with bamboo handle and top of soft silk cut in narrow strips is most decorative. It is of practical value, too, in keeping polished mahogany furniture free from dust. This quiver-shaped basket makes an appropriate case for it. Six spokes of No. 2 rattan thirty-six 1 inches long are crossed in the centre and bound twice with a weaver of No. 00 before the under-and-over weaving is begun.

A centre one inch in diameter is woven and then the spokes are wet and turned up with straight sides for two inches and a quarter. A dark-blue bead is slipped on to every other spoke, and the weaver having been pushed up through one of these beads, the end of another weaver is run down beside the next spoke on the right and two rows of pairing are woven. The spokes are then brought straight up without weaving for two inches and a half. Here a weaver doubled around a spoke is woven in two rows of pairing. Again the spokes are brought up straight without weaving for four and three-quarters inches, when a piece of weaver is doubled around a spoke and one row of pairing is woven. On every other spoke an iridescent bead is threaded and the weavers are brought up through two successive beads to be woven in two more rows of pairing.

Again the spokes are brought up without weaving for an inch and seven-eighths, when seven-eighths of an inch of pairing is woven and the following border made: In the first row each spoke is brought back of the spoke on the right and outside. In the second row each end is brought around back of the next spoke and outside, down by the weaving. As it is brought through in this way it lies close to another end, which it should precede, so that the next end to take will always be the back one of the pair thus formed. A ring to hang it by is made by passing a piece of No. 00 rattan, about eighteen inches long, back of two spokes between the last two rows of weaving and tying it into a ring. The ends are twisted in and out around the foundation ring twice, making three circuits, which complete it.
