For those of you who are new to trout fishing I figured I'd write a quick article titled, a beginners guide to trout fishing, to give you some simple and basic trout fishing tips that will help you be more successful. It isn't very different from any other type of fishing (obviously) but there are certain simple things that can be implemented to tip the odds into your favor.

I've personally been fishing for trout for more than twenty years, and learned from an angler that was someone I consider to be a trout fishing master. This man (who I refer to as my fishing mentor) was a highly successful trout angler, and some of the simple tips and techniques he developed/used will most certainly help you on your journey.

The first thing to keep in mind in reference to trout fishing is that light gear should be employed. Actually, in a perfect world, ultra light gear should be employed. When I refer to gear, I'm referring specifically to your rod, reel, and line. So ultra light rods and reels, spooled with light line should be used for trout fishing. By 'light line' I mean six-pound test at the heaviest. I personally prefer four-pound test, but six-pound test is passable, especially for a beginner.

The reason we use such light line is because trout are found in cold clear water, and fishing line is much more visible in these types of conditions. Couple this with the fact that trout have very keen eyesight, and the bottom line is that light line needs to be employed when trout fishing. Ultra light rods and reels make using light line much easier as well. Not only this, but using ultra light gear makes catching fish a ton of fun as well.

The next thing for the beginning trout angler to understand is that certain days and times of the day are more productive than others. What, you don't believe me? It's true; there are certain times that are better for fishing than others. As a matter of fact, when the moon isn't in my favor for example, I tend not to even bother going fishing. The key to understanding the most opportune times for fishing lies in understanding the weather and moon.

When fishing for trout it's always a good idea to use live worms as bait. My mentor used live worms for trout bait almost exclusively. And the best way to rig a live worm, when using it as bait, is a set of pre-tied gang hooks. My mentor was the first person that I ever saw using this method for freshwater fishing, and it is highly effective. For me, trout fishing and gang hooks go hand in hand.

These simple tips will help the beginning trout angler have a lot more success. How am I so sure of this? Because I've been using every one of these tips for more than twenty years and know from experience how effective they are. Remember, there's no substitute for spending time on the water, and as you implement and practice these techniques you will become even more adept at catching trout.

What is the ultimate fly fishing book?

The last two years Ive got into fly fishing.
What I am looking for now is a fly fishing book that will help me fish the proper fly for the time of season with retrieving tips etc.
I mostly fish scottish loch and dams with stocked rainbow and brownies in the hope of moving onto sea trout fishing and salmon if I get good at this.
It would also be helpful if I could find a book that will teach me new rig tying skills, ie how to tie fly line onto backing and how to tie a leader line onto fly line without using braided leaders.

In today's turbulent business environments, every leader should be concerned about how well his or her organization executes and how well it adapts to change. Execution has been on the list of top concerns of CEOs for years now. But the turbulent business environments of the past few years underscore the necessity for rapid adaptability and execution to survive and prosper in the new economy.

What's the secret to executing in turbulent business environments and propelling an organization to the next level? There are many attributes that contribute to an organization's success. But there is an often forgotten element that has gained increasing attention in the past few years. It may come as a surprise, but a powerful means to achieving success is to infuse your organization with military leadership experience. There is a growing body of evidence that demonstrates just how important it is to have leaders with experiences that only military officers have.

Bringing Military Leadership Experience to the Private Sector.

In 2005, Korn Ferry International, in cooperation with the Economist Intelligence Unit, published an astonishing report that demonstrated the extraordinary value of military leadership experience in the private sector. The report Military Experience and CEOs: Is There a Link? unequivocally demonstrates that there is indeed a link between business success and military leadership experience. By "military leadership experience" we mean, specifically, military officers. The report showed that S&P 500 CEOs, as a demographic group, are nearly three times more likely to have served as an officer in one of the four U.S. military services than the general population of U.S. adult males. It also showed that companies led by these former military leaders outperformed, on average, other S&P 500 firms. These CEOs also lasted longer in their positions by about 2.7 years on average. So, not only did these leaders perform better, they were more committed to their companies over the long haul.

Executing and Winning in Turbulent Business Environments.

In 2009, the value of military leadership experience in turbulent business environments was further punctuated by London Business School professor Donald Sull in his book The Upside of Turbulence: Seizing Opportunity in an Uncertain World. Sull, who adapts military tactical theory to business management practices, asserts that turbulence will likely continue to be a quality that the global economy will experience for a long time. For Sull, it is rapid adaptation and execution toward small gains that lead to success, as in current U.S. Marine Corps tactical doctrine and in the tactical improvements for fighter pilots that emerged after the Korean War. The ability to debrief is highlighted as a core competency in adaptive organizations, just like in the U.S. military. But it is the ability to translate strategy into action, supported by the ability to debrief and learn from doing, that is the secret to executing and winning in turbulent business environments.

The ability to make decisions and act when faced with new challenges and limited information is the skill possessed by those with military leadership experience. Whether these leaders fly military aircraft, navigate combat ships or lead combat troops in Afghanistan or Iraq, their daily lives depend upon solving problems and executing their decisions under constantly changing, turbulent business environments. These are also the skills necessary for business leaders.

Prepare for Turbulent Business Environments with Skilled Military Leaders.

For anyone that is still skeptical about the value of military leadership experience, Dan Senor and Saul Singer make an even more compelling argument for its value in their 2009 release Start-Up Nation: The Story of Israel's Economic Miracle. Although the authors attribute Israel's phenomenal success to several factors, including a mission objective orientation and non-attributive debriefing, one of the most significant is that Israeli companies actively recruit individuals with military leadership experience. The authors scold American business leaders for their illiteracy regarding military resumes and their failure to recognize the value of military leadership experience in their companies. "Given all this battlefield entrepreneurial experience," write the authors, "the vets coming out of Iraq and Afghanistan wars are better prepared than ever for the business world, whether building start-ups or helping lead larger companies through the current turbulent period."

Every business in America can benefit from the experience gained from those serving as officers in the U.S. military. In light of the current economic turbulence and the proven capacities of military officers to execute and excel in turbulent business environments, companies would be foolish to ignore the opportunity to draw upon their talents. These officers possess abilities to plan and set goals, communicate and motivate others that no business school can teach. They have practiced and honed their decision-making skills in life and death situations. In all, they provide a rich resource that is not inexhaustible. Companies that stake a claim on this rare commodity and actively recruit it will certainly position themselves to execute in the turbulent future ahead.

Since I value all of your opinions, I want to know what are some prooductive colors for saltwater poppers? I'm a freshwater angler. Not much experience with saltwater...yet. I want to airbrush these in some popular saltwater colors. Any help would be greatly appreciated. These will be for sale eventually on my site for anyone that likes fishing topwater. I'm looking for the three top color schemes. Links to a good pic would help too.

Best color schemes:

1. Red/White

2. Chartreuse/White

3. Any highly realistic representation of a Pogy/Menhaden ETC.(This would be for your "gin-clear" waters. Something similar to a Rainys Bubble Head soft foam fly.)

Using Green or Silver Flashabou for a tail always works best for me.

If you have time, try to paint a "flared gill" pattern in bright red on any poppers.

(Go to Bass Pro for a look at the Rainys Bubble Head saltwater popper. In my opinion, they look decent for a "mass produced" Fly. )

One of the most popular techniques for trout fishing is called trolling. Trolling is popular as many fishing techniques trout from, because even in the bodies as lakes and ponds, freshwater Act trout fishing is supposed to be the most relaxing and enjoyable as the act of catching trout is exhilarating.

Have you ever had the pleasure of having a large fish on the end of your line? I'm not talking about a big fish. I'm talking about a LARGE fish. The size that almost instantly makes you break out into a cold sweat, and think to yourself, "My God!" If you have, these tips may help you land that fish. They've been learned by being the victim of not landing that fish, which is a place I would rather no human being has to experience.

1) Set your drag BEFORE you start fishing. You don't want to hear the familiar "zzzzzzzzz", from the drag being too loose or the popular "snap" of you line when your drag is too tight. Check it by pulling it with your hand every ten or so casts.

2) When you have a nice fished hooked and it wants to run, by all means let it. Let the fish tire itself out. This is absolutely imperative to landing a large fish. Let the fish's strength work for you by tiring the fish out. Let it run.

3) When the fish makes a nice "run" (a "run" is when it's pulling drag out) point your rod tip at the fish. Any bend in the rod will put un-needed pressure on your line. So point your rod tip towards the fish when it's making a run.

4) If the fish jumps point your rod tip down. Try to keep your line tight as tight as possible. I've lost many rainbow trout after they start jumping like crazy. When they jump, you need to keep contact with them as much as possible.

5) If you can see any cover in the water, get the fish as far away from the cover as you can. Large fish will almost always run towards cover. This is especially true with trout. If there's a fallen tree in the water, a big trout will by god do everything in its power to get into it. And if it gets into the cover, 95% of the time it's game over. So keep them away from the cover.

6) If you're fighting a large fish in current while wading or standing on the bank, and the fish just stops, don't panic. Many times large fish can position themselves in the current in such a way that they just hold there. As if you were stuck on bottom. It's a crazy thing when you experience it, but I've personally lost more than one fish when the fish does exactly this. I've also landed very nice fish on very light fishing tackle by allowing the fish to just "hold" there for a while. In every case, within 15 minutes the fish begins swimming again. If you use your polarized sun glasses, many times you can see the fish just "holding" there. This is one of those places where patience comes into play.

7) The first time that you actually catch a glimpse of the fish, DON'T PANIC! I've seen it happen, and it's happened to me. Many times, when you catch a glimpse of the monster on the other end of your line panic overtakes you. You must remember to breathe and keep your composure as much as possible.

If you keep these seven things in mind, it could very well help you to land that large fish the next time you have it hooked. That's my hope, that we can all land a monster at least once in our fishing lives. Just keep in mind that it took me three years of hard fishing on the same river and the loss of four or five monsters before I landed the monster I have hanging on my wall. But I knew there were fish of that caliber in the river I was fishing. I just knew it! Keep at it, and your hard work will pay off.

I recommend a Super Duper silver and red lure, or even the red and gold they offer. There are also Rooster Tails that work really well, you will have to see what colors work in your area. Lastly, Panther Martin lures work well for these kinds of fish. Just so you know, all those listed above work well when you are trolling in a boat, but are also very effective from shore as long as there isnt any obsticles in the way that will snag your lure. rapalas are generally used for bass fishing, and I have never had a trout bite a Rapala.

There has been a sort of evolution of float tube fly fishing. The progression from doughnut tire-like tubes to U shapes and V shapes that make it easier to get in and out of, as well as more simple to maneuver when you are out there on the water. Changing the shape of the standard float tube really contributed to the success of developmental projects in float tubing overall.

Why does it make a difference? In recent polls and with general questions for the fly fishers around, we found that float tube fly fishing improvements really have made a difference.

For many anglers cleaning their fishing reel seems like to daunting a task to undertake, but in this article I'm going to provide you with simple direction for accomplishing the task. Cleaning your spinning reel isn't rocket science, and if you do it once a year, it will add years to the life of your reel. For example, I clean my spinning reels once a year and I've had some of them for over ten years, and they still perform like they were new!

How to clean your fishing reel is really quite simple if you follow the simple directions in this article. The first thing we need to do is discuss the items that you'll need to accomplish this task quickly and easily. I'm going to simply list the items that are needed here, then outline exactly how to clean your spinning reel. You will need the following items: a clean towel, a small screw driver (usually Phillips head), a small bottle of reel grease (or WD-40), 5 or 6 Q-tips, and some paper towels.

That's it. Those are the simple items that you need to clean your spinning reel. Now down to the business of how to clean your spinning reel, and add years to it's life. Below you will find the steps involved in accomplishing this fairly simple task.

1. Begin by removing the spinning reel from it's rod and using a couple of paper towels to wipe it off completely. We want to remove any dust, dirt, sand, or grime that might be on the outside of the spinning reel.
2. Now remove the handle of the spinning reel. The handle normally is removed in one of 2 ways. Either by removing/loosening a screw of some sort in the handle itself or by simply holding the reel and turning the handle backwards. This will remove the handle. Once removed, set the handle onto the clean towel.
3. Now make sure that the reel is laying with the screws that hold it together exposed. Now simply remove these screws (usually from 3-5) and place them next to the handle. This will expose a small plate which can now be removed. Remove the plate and set it next to the screws.
4. At this point the inside of the spinning reel should be exposed. Use a clean Q-tip to remove any visible debris on the inside of the reel. Now use your reel grease and put a couple of drops of grease on every moving gear that you see. If you're using WD-40 simply squirt a little on every gear you can see.
5. Now simply reverse the process. Put the plate back into place and screw in the screws. Before re-installing the handle, add some grease/WD-40 to it as well. Now re-install the handle.

You have successfully cleaned your fishing reel, and will never have to wonder how to clean your spinning reel again. Now you know. what in your opinion is the best fly fishing vest made?

Best one made-Would have to be the Simms G3 Guide MKii vest, lots of storage and very comfortable, but then they should be for $200.
One piece of advice i would give you is don't go down the route of Fishpond fly vests, they are NOT comfortable and don't adjust so that they sit on even proportions of your body, i would look into either the more simple Simms vests or Orvis.

If searching for a vest one with a Teflon coating and made from a synthetic material like nylon-this helps it stay light and dry easily, modern vests have neoprene shoulders which help as they stretch to distribute the weight.

There are many anglers in this country that fish with live worms. How do I know this? I think the fact that in many regions of the country, each store worthy of the name to "bait" as a point in his shop, and "bait" is, of course, include towards. I imagine that if the worms live are sold in stores are very popular. Or worms that live are used in some secret recipes I do not know. The conclusion is that fishing with live worms is incredibly popular, however, most fishermen do not know how. Most fishermen believe that fishing with live worms means simply "threading" a worm on a hook for fishing and drawing. This is not the case.

I must say, I have only contempt in my heart for all the idea of fly fishing but without "A River Runs Through It" is my favorite movie (not because of the lighting Flea, of course). In this film, the reverend McLain is quoted as saying: "Whoever does not know how catch a fish, you should be able to disgrace that fish by catching him. "I could not agree more with this sentiment, especially in fishing with live worms.

For me, fishing with live worms is the kind of fly fishing gear has never professed to be. The first aspect of fishing with live worms is to use a set of hooks. A gang hooks is simply a pair of small hooks attached pair, which allows the angler to present a live worm in a completely natural. This is far from simply "threading" a worm on a hook or creating the dreaded "worm ball". The act of using a series of hooks could not be more easy. I mean it's just 1 more hook that you're probably earlier. The only difference is that the brackets are smaller than you're probably accustomed to use and which are connected in parallel.

With a small research group can you link your gang hooks yourself or buy ready to fish, there is no difference on how to obtain the true band hooks. The important thing is to start using them for fishing to live. Just meaning that the more your bait looks like it would be in the nature bites you get. If you take the hour or so to clean your fishing reel before the start of the fishing season, it will add year's to the life of the reel. I've got fishing reels that I paid less than $50 for and are over ten years old and still work like new. Why is that? Because I take care of them and take the little bit of time it actually takes to clean and grease them every year. Cleaning a fishing reel is very simple, here's a list of what you need :

1 Small Phillips Head Screwdriver
2 or 3 clean towels
5 or 6 Q-tips
Some Paper Towels
WD-40 or a small tube of Reel Grease

Begin by removing the fishing reel from the fishing rod. Now find a nice clean area to work, such as the kitchen table and lay out 2 of the clean towels. One of the towels is to work on and the other is to place parts so they don't get misplaced. The first thing that must be removed is the handle of the reel. It will either be held on by a screw that you unscrew with your fingers or you simply turn the handle counterclockwise and back it out. Once removed, place the handle and screw that held it in (if there is one) on the second clean towel.

At this point, take the third clean towel and some warm water and wipe the entire reel off well. If you're using WD-40, you can spray a bit on the outside of the reel before wiping. We simply want to clean the reel and remove any debris that might be present. Now turn the reel onto the side that the screws are visible. There are normally four small Phillips head screws. Simply remove the screws and place them on the clean towel so you know where they are. Once the screws are removed you should notice how the screws were holding the reel together. Simply remove the plate and place it on the clean towel as well.

Now the inner workings of the reel are exposed. You should notice a couple of gears and such. At this point you want to use a couple of your Q-tips to remove any sand, dirt, or debris that can be seen. Once that's done, you want to grease the gears in the reel. Just add a couple of drops to each moving gear. If you're using wd-40, simply spray a small amount on each gear. Now simply reverse the process.

With your fishing reel back together, you're done! It's that simple to clean your spinning reel. It should work as well as it ever has after being cleaned, and will work like that for the entire fishing season. As I said, if you do this before every fishing season, your fishing reels will last for years. If your fishing reel was acting up before cleaning and continues to not work properly after cleaning, it may be time to think about getting a new one. On many occasions, just giving them a good cleaning solves many fishing reel problems.

I would say to myself " Oh la la , that White River trouts are real gourmets".

There are more than 83,000 miles of streams and rivers in Pennsylvania, and many of these miles contain trout. Most trout species can be found in Pennsylvania, such as: Rainbow, Brown, and Brook trout. Pennsylvania trout fishing can be quite good in rivers, streams, and lakes. In 2007, the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission plans to stock approximately 4.2 million adult trout into waters within Pennsylvania that is open to public angling. These are the types of numbers that get stocked into the waters of Pennsylvania each year, so the trout population remains quite healthy.

I grew up fishing for trout in Pennsylvania and as a matter of fact it's where I met my fishing mentor, who indecently was the best trout fisherman that I've ever known. The rivers, streams, and lakes of central Pennsylvania were the place where I personally learned to fish for trout. I know apply the tips and techniques that my mentor taught me in Pennsylvania all over the country.

The most effective technique for trout fishing in Pennsylvania is the use of a rig called a set of gang hooks. A set of pre-tied gang hooks is simply two small hooks tied in tandem. This enables the angler to present live bait in a completely natural manner, especially live worms. And in the case of Pennsylvania trout fishing, these hooks work great. These hooks also work great for fishing in lakes in Pennsylvania. They get used exactly as you would normally fish a single hook, but with gang hooks there are 2 hooks. That means you can present twice as much Powerbait, cheese, corn, or whatever your favorite trout bait is.

While using a set of pre-tied gang hooks and a a bait bag to carry his worms, my mentor used to catch 4-5 pound trout out of central Pennsylvania waters. He didn't catch trout this size every week, but he caught them this size every year, and smaller trout whenever he wanted. A trout in the 4-5 pound range is a flat out trophy no matter where you fish., but the point is that My mentor used to catch trout in this size range while fishing in Pennsylvania.

The bottom line is that Pennsylvania trout fishing is as good as anywhere in the country as far a numbers of fish go. The waters out west have PA beat as far as native fish go, but that's simply because the waters out west gets much less fishing pressure. Pennsylvania trout fishing is as good as it gets and the techniques mentioned in this article will help anyone catch more trout while fishing in the state of Pennsylvania.
