From the description, it doesn't mention anything about backing. I fish Steelhead as often as 3-4 times a week and even a average Steelhead can run you into your backing. If you decide to purchase this, and it turns out not to come with backing...get some and re-rig your outfit. Also the rod is a little too short for a river like the Credit. I would suggest something a bit longer. Longer length aids in line control and mending. I have two pre-rigged outfits on my website if you decide not to purchase that particular one. They come ready to fish including backing. See my profile for a link to my website. I'll be glad to help you out any way I can.

Fly fishing is a very old form of fishing and requires delicacy and precision of catching fish, fly fishing, but not limited at all to catch fish small. You can catch fish almost any type of fishing, but most fishermen use flies for salmon and trout fishing.

The best thing you can say historians, was the first record in the second century AD in Mesopotamia. The flies are tied using chicken feathers and were cast for a period of six feet in line with the pole that was almost as long. Modern day fly fishing configurations are indeed similar, although they have definitely made progress.

Fishing rods are generally more of a normal fishing rod and very light. The line is heavier than you might expect, and aid in the casting weight. For the most part, the reel owns the line and not online no tail when you cast out, as with many other bar and reel combinations.

When fly fishing, fisherman cane press a portion of the line and essentially whips back and forth, trying to fly in front of a fish to entice the strike.

There are a variety of different flies, but most of them are very small and lightweight. They may float, sink, or be designed to stop a few inches below the surface. More than most types of fishing lures, flies are made to look like fish food to feed on reality.

The main types of flies, though there are many subgroups, are dry and emergers, nymphs, streamers, wet flies, saltwater flies, bass and panfish flies, and flies salmon and steelhead. These basic types of flies can be modified for different fishing situations and the patterns and color combinations are almost endless.

One of the most popular uses of fishing gear trout fishing. Although you do not need a configuration of fly fishing for trout fishing, many fishermen out at last go this way. Fly fishing trout flies work well, because they resemble small source of real trout food.

Guidelines recommend trout fishing to look at what kind of insects are active in which fishing and the use of flies that resemble them. The local insect population will help determine not only the type and color of the fly to use, but also whether to use a fly that float or sink.

The sport fishing of trout fishing and the fly, in general, has a reputation be hard on the wallet, but many stores offer the sports gear for beginners at a reasonable price. While arts beginner time as the level necessary to exchange skill increases fisherman, the choice of low cost equipment to get started: the fisherman can save the updates.

Bow River Fly Fishing
Tips for a Novice Fly Angler?

I've tried fly fishing a couple times... now I bought a rod/flies/waders/etc. All dressed up and ready to go. I'm practicing my casts in my yard right now just to get the hang of it, but I just cannot wait to go out to the Bow River and give it a whirl.

So for you experienced fly fishermen out there... what kind of advice can you give a novice like me? In particular, what are some signs on the river that give clues to where the trout are, what they're feeding on, and how to catch it. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Look for rocks, logs, and other things the trout can hide behind. Trout tend to hang out downstream of rocks and other cover to break the current, then rise to feed. They return right back. Also, look for bubble lines in the water. You'll notice that the current makes a V shape as it passes around rocks and other structure and bubbles that form on the surface will form a line leading downstream. Food for trout -such as natural flies- will also tend to flow along the bubble line as well and trout will be waiting to feed on them.

Watch closely for rising trout and when you see them hit the surface cast just upstream from them and let your fly drift down to them. It takes a bit of practice to read a river to find where the trout are but you'll get the hang of it soon enough.

Trout Fishing Flies
what is the best way to catch trout but without fly fishing?

PLEASE NOTHING ABOUT FLY FISHING COZ I DON'T KNOW HOW TO
ON THE RIVER ITCHEN OR THE FISHERY THATS THERE

cappie minnows, fatheads, and nightcrawlers are the best live bait. Use small #8 0r #10 hooks(smaller if possible) and the lightest line you can get away with. You do not use a bobber or a float. If there is no current, or a light one, you do not need split shot or sinkers. Just let the bait float and drift to the bottom naturally, moving it slightly every few minutes as needed. In areas with heavier current, you need to add the appropriate amount of weight to keep the bait in the fishes strike zone.
When fishing trout, you always want to fish upstream (face into the current) this way, on the retrieve, you bring the bait back with the current which is a more natural presentation. trout like to hold in dead spots in the middle of fast moving water.Look for rocks in deep current and cast past them. Allow your bait to drift past the rock and try to delay it in the dead spot in the current that the rock, or other obstruction creates. When using nightcrawlers or worms I like to cast on top of the rock and slowly pull the bait off of it, slipping the worm into the water slowly on the side of the rock facing me. Also look for deep pools and runs. If the banks are undercut by the current these can be golden spots to drift live bait through. Remember, trout always face upstream(against the current) so try to do the same. This way you will stay behind them so they don't see you, they also won't become spooked by the debris you have disturbed floating past them.
Spinners and spoons are also great means of catching trout. Panther Martins, Mepps, and Rooster tails are popular choices and work well. Sizes #0 thru #2. Smaller is generally better when trout fishing, but certainly not always the case. If the water is muddy or murky, use copper colored spinners. On cloudy days use gold, and on bright sunny days use silver(any color can work any day, but this is the guideline) When spinner fishing from shore, if you cannot fish with the current, try to quarter it. Reel just fast enough to keep the blade spinning, as close to the bottom as possible. Small rapalas and other crank baits can work well also. There is a whole mess of literature on trout fishing, go to you're local bookstore and see what you can find.

Good luck fishing!

Bend Oregon is home to several species of trout. Rainbow Trout, German Brown trout, lake trout, brook to brook trout and are the main species caught within a short drive from Bend.

Almost all lakes and streams in central Oregon contain Rainbow Trout. The Deschutes River is world famous for trout fishing. It begins in the Cascade mountains of the Southwest Bend. It is the source of water for Crane Prairie Reservoir and Reservoir WICKIUP. It crosses the middle of Bend and empties into the mighty Columbia River.

Crane Prairie Reservoir is known for its large trout ( "Cranebows"). It is about one hours drive from Bend. It was flooded in 1928 with most of the wood left on foot. It is a relatively shallow lake with the deepest sections approximately 15-20 feet deep near the channels in the spring. The water level drops steadily all summer during the irrigation season.

The Cranebows spawn in the upper Deschutes in early spring, then return to the reservoir and are scattered around the shallower water. As the water warms in early summer fish congregating around the channels start. Twenty to thirty inches Rainbows are frequent.

Hello Anglers, First of all I hope everyone had great Christmas and New Years holidays. Secondly, I want to thank everyone that fished with me in 2009, it was a terrific year and I saw a 34% increase in business. I truly do appreciate you choosing me and Reel Simple Fishing Adventures for your outings. Hopefully I will see you in 2010 and put you on the trophy fish you always wanted. Fishing in December was good despite a few days of inclement weather. There were some real good Snook trips as well as a couple very good Grouper trips. January should be a good month as well if the weather cooperates. The Trout season opened back up and I expect to have a action packed month of good Trout fishing. We caught a lot of nice Trout in December. The other species that will be highlighted this month should be Grouper and Sheephead, both of which make great table fare. Snook will be harder to catch due to the water temps dropping but they will still be caught if your patient. Most of the Redfish caught will be on the small side which is typical for this time of year.

The warm water discharge at the power plants should also give us anglers an opportunity to boat some nice Sharks and possibly a cruising Cobia. If your in it for the sport, the big Jack Crevalle are here in big numbers and offer more pull than most are ready for. Until next time, good luck and be safe on the water. Brown Trout
Should I mount a brown Trout?

today I caught a Brown Trout while fishing for suckers.. it's the biggest I've seen in a while at 2lbs 3 oz. and 19" long I want to mount it...should I? what can I exspect to pay ? how should I prepare it for mounting?

you werent even fishing for trout!! You on one hand are awsome for catching a big brown trout, yet you did not work hard for it/ deserve it. something you mount/ spend a lot of money on is something you hunted or fished for for a long time to catch, and you had your eye on the prize for a long time!! that is something you should be proud of and should want on your wall watching you sleep! yet i dont know much of anything about trout, but if brown trout are really sweet looking and that is just a ridiculusly big trout you should mount it just because! And if you are gonna mount it stick it in ice, it will lose its color but its all good becasue your gonna get a replica anyhow.
Some adivice: dont listen to thin kabatskus advice, theres a reason you pay taxidermist a lot of money......because walmart doesnt include the years of training that you need in that 20 $ kit!!plus that guy just said bon appatite which automatically makes him a moron!

This area is not exploited, and both trout and pike can be very easy to catch. between Hayden and Craig, the Yampa starts to become a fishery. hot water. The upper half of this section is very good trout fishing, but the more you Craig, the lowest population. Fishing in the City of Craig is possible because there are several access areas. Here you will find lots of pike, large and small mouth, and trout fishing may be very low to very good. This measured downstream, the best trout fishing is best in spring. Then Craig, the Yampa is a river hot water. The ten or fifteen miles below the mouth Craig has many small and pike, and a small population of trout. Soon the river becomes very silty, and replace catfish smallmouth and pike.

Access is easy along the Yampa River. Each section of the river above the access ford major, finding a place to fish is not a big problem. Stagecoach Steamboat Springs, fisherman fly tend to do better and is often midging form go. should be noted that the spinners and spoons may well work here. Steamboat then, most trout are taken on spinners or worms, fly fisherman, but you can still do well. Rapalas work well for small mouth, and imitations of the mouse and the frog in a variety of colors running well for pike.

SALMON LAKE/DOUGLAS LAKE RANCH, what flies worked best?

im going fishing at salmon lake and i wanted to know which flies worked the best, their website gives a number of good working flies but i wanted to know what the people fishing liked, thanks

Is this the place your talking about

http://www.douglaslake.com/recreation/flyfishing.htm

Ive fished there some years ago, sadly only for trout, as id left my 9wt salmon rod and flies etc at home. But i know the fishing for salmon was good back then and most likely it still is. However flies change from season to season, when i was there tube flies were working well. Give the trout a go there if you get the chance, had some good fish to small dries like the Adams. fish for them on a 5 wt and use a 9wt for the salmon.

Introduction

While there are many techniques to improve your fishing, these Seven Secrets will get you on your way to a more successful fishing experience. One of the most important secrets is Scent Control. If the fish know you are there, your chances of success are diminished. You'll also want to pay close attention to prepping your leader and properly weighting your casting bubble. Retrieving techniques are also very important...if you want to catch some fish! And, we close out with a quick discussion of the best rods, reels, lines and leaders.

Scent Control

  • Fish have a very keen sense of smell. It has been proven that salmon, returning to their spawning grounds, do so by detecting the smell of where they were hatched.
  • Be very careful with suntan lotion, bug spray, or fuel. If you get these, or like substances, on your hands you must wash it off. A standard practice of mine, before I tie on a fly, is to rinse my hands in water without using soap.
  • Did you know that saliva masks human scent? I always spit on my flies before I use them. Gross, but very effective.
  • After I catch my first fish, I gently rub my fly along the side of it.
  • Another trick is to place a small piece of garlic in your fly box if you can stand the smell.
  • Crushing a few natural insects on the fly is another effective method of scenting the fly.

Leader Prep

  • The tapered leader comes coiled in the Universal Fly Casting Rig package. After is it uncoiled, it must be straightened by carefully pulling the length of it through your hand or piece of leather. Be careful not to cut yourself by gripping the leader too tight or pulling too fast.
  • If your leader is not straight, you will miss most of the fish strikes. The reason for this is because the memory of the leader creates slack, preventing you from detecting the movement of the fly at the critical moment of the strike. The importance of a straight leader cannot be overstated.

Weighting the Casting Bubble

  • If you wish to fish on the surface, fill the bubble three-quarters full of water. To fish under the surface, fill the bubble completely full.
  • To fish in deep, or very fast water, put BB-size split shot directly in the bubble through the stopper hole. I have fished with up to eight (8) pieces of shot in my bubble, and yes, BB-sized shot will fit through the hole.

Retrieving Techniques

  • Presentation, presentation, presentation. This is the key to catching fish! The Universal Fly is a large streamer, which represents a minnow. To catch large predatory fish, you must move the fly! I achieve this by using a water-filled bubble with split shot (see Secret #3) and violently jerking, or whipping, my rod during the retrieve. Most fishermen will jerk the rod, and then reel in the slack. You must learn to reel while you are jerking to achieve as much speed as possible. The mindset is this: try to keep the fly away from the fish. It is impossible to move a fly through the water faster than a fish can swim.
  • It is important to keep your rod tip down and jerk or whip in a line parallel to the ground. If you jerk up, as in jig fishing, you will bring the fly to the surface. I've said to many fishermen, "If no one is laughing at you, you're probably not jerking hard enough!"
  • Experiment with the rhythm and speed until you find what the fish want.
  • If you are fishing with a dry fly or nymph, reel slowly. However, I have caught many fish on nymphs by jerking like a madman!

Rod Types

  • Use a medium action, 6-1/2 to 7 foot spinning rod.
  • Graphite rods are best for strength, but are usually a bit more expensive. Check out eBay, Buy.com or Amazon Marketplace for the best prices.

Reel Types

  • All casting reels will work. The ideal reel is an open-face spinning reel with a minimum retrieve ratio of 5:1 (5 spool winds to 1 crank turn).
  • Fish with the fastest reel you can buy. Remember, you can always slow down if you need to.

Line/Leader Types

  • I fish with "Tectan Premium Plus". This line has a small diameter and virtually no memory. Trust me, I've tried them all. This is, by far, the best line for this type of fishing and is available at Cabela's.
  • Tapered leaders work best, because they minimize tangles. I use a 7-1/2 foot, 3x leader. Sometimes it is helpful to tie a smaller tippet on the end of the leader for line-shy fish. You can also increase the distance from the bubble to the fly this way.

I've been living in Colorado for nearly 50 years and have been an avid hunter and fisherman my entire life. For the last 25 years, I have been river fishing, trout fishing and bass fishing in some of the most spectacular places in the Rocky Mountain region.

I finally decided that it was time to share what I knew, so I started Best Fishing Secrets. I want to help as many fishermen as possible to catch tons of trout, bass, crappie, catfish, salmon, perch, bluegill -- just about every species of freshwater fish -- in the Rocky Mountains or anywhere else in the world -- with an all-in-one fishing rig.

This article will focus on the best trout fishing lures and baits. I have fished for trout nearly all my life and got started by fishing in small streams and creeks in Pennsylvania. The water was clear and cold. The woods were strikingly beautiful. But you want to hear about the best lures and baits, don't you?

First off, there are nightcrawlers and red worms, which are a smaller worm that are better for smaller trout. It is vital to hook these worms correctly, looping the hook through the body multiple times, or using a rig with two hooks. Worms don't keep very well, so they may die somewhere throughout your fishing expedition. However, they are very reliable and steadfast, and you will pretty much always be able to catch trout on worms as long as the trout are there.

There are also other live or semi-live baits, such as salmon eggs. Salmon eggs are by far my favorite trout bait for smaller sized trout. You must use a very small hook, tie on a salmon egg and let it drift downstream. Hopefully a trout gobbles it up, you reel him in, and then later that night you gobble him up. Minnows are like salmon eggs for larger trout. It can be difficult to catch trout who have survived in the wild for several years using artificial baits - they are very suspicious. For these larger trout smaller minnows, preferably of a species that live in the creek you're fishing in, are the best.

Small spinning lures and jigs can work well, depending on the conditions. Small spinning lures are by far the best lure for catching trout (well, besides flies, but we'll get to that in a bit). These in-line spinning lures work best when the trout aren't hungry or are lazy, in this way you can agitate a fish into biting the lure when they aren't attacking natural baits. Jigs tend to work best with a slow presentation, and in the colder months.

Fly fishing is another method of trout fishing entirely. The line is weighted to allow you to cast, because you have to use a very small lure. The lure itself is called a fly, which is essentially a hook with small feathers, colored strings, and other things tied onto it in order to make it emulate a natural insect. When you cast out the fly, it drifts across the surface as it is carried downstream, looking a lot like an insect to trout beneath the surface. This is a very effective method of trout fishing, and the one preferred by many. You can even make your own flies, a delicate process known as fly tying!

There are also some artificially created pastes, nuggets and gobs that are sold for the purpose of trout fishing. Some of these work and some of them don't, however I wouldn't recommend using them unless you plan on eating the trout, as they often get swallowed immediately. Releasing the fish with a swallowed hook is a bad thing to do, as the fish will die within days. The trout seem to like the taste of this powerful bait, and I have used it from time to time, however the cost can be a bit prohibitive. That being said, they do work well, so I won't speak ill of them.

That's about it, for all of the best trout fishing lures. Of course we're talking about small to medium sized freshwater trout - not huge lunker lake trout or ocean species of trout. You'll have to check out some future article to find out what I use for those.

Game Trout Fly
catching/traping fish sunfish.?

OK i have a lake house in fact 2 on diffrent lakes in new york, there is always tons of sunfish and bluegill and what not on our house but on the other side the game fish live monster size bass and trout and what not, but i was wondering, since i have always 100s of little sun fish i want to catch them and keep them as pets is there any way to do it, i bought a metal cage to trap fish i put bread but they didn't eat it and they never came in. If thise metal cages work, then what should i put in them. If they don't what should i use to catch them. I check the rules and regulations and all that, it is a private late with only 2 house on it. I bought really small fly fishing hooks but only the big ones bight and the little ones stay away.

any thing would help..
thx

Is this metal cage a trap with funnel shaped opening, If so it should work. Are you placing it too deep in the water? It should be in shallow water not over 2 or 3 feet down next to bank or suspended under dock. Bread should work wonders. Canned dog food with dozens of large holes chopped in it is another possiblity but the bread is good.

You could try an umbrella net. Known here as a dip net. For very small sunfish it should work and work fast. Use bread wetted and weighted with a small flat rock.

Try casting net. Difficult to master. Get the smallest diameter you can find like 5 foot.

Line Trout
what is the best why to rig your line for trout fishing in a lake?

one hook two hooks weight on bottom weight up from hooks .treble hooks smale egg hooks ?everything you can offer is much needed gind of bait?

A simple treble hook with a worm on a six foot leed-line that is counter-sunk by a fist size portion of canned sweet corn and raw hamburger stuffed in cheese cloth always works well for me. I never leave the lake without at least more than my legal limit! Also try throwing out any excess bait before casting your line. For example, sometimes I accidentally bring with me way too much power bait. Since the stuff goes bad after a while, I get rid of all my excess, you know to lighten the load of my boat, about 15 min before I throw out my first cast. And because I don't want that power bait stinking up my cooler, I just throw the contents of about a dozen or so jars into the lake for easy disposal.

Among the hundreds of types of fish to fishermen, nothing is more enjoyable for me is trout fishing small rivers and streams. For me, standing in a river flowing, trying to catch a fish is a spiritual experience. Being in nature, to practice my profession is as good he gets, and one of the only times I feel close to people in power that many call God. Yes, it is trout fishing small rivers and streams could be called my "church" and attend services very often.

In this article I will describe some tips and techniques that helped me to catch small streams and rivers with trout over 25 years. Some of these fishing tips have been taught by my mentor (the best trout fisherman I've ever met) and some of them have learned through my own experience. In any case, now you can learn in an article in speed and then start using it to your advantage.

A quick observation of others before you start. There is no tip "fishing" that will better trout fisherman and practice. The key is to spend time in water, running no "peak" is learned. In other words, nothing will help your trout fishing success that spending time in the water to practice their art. Plus you can go in the water, the better.

When it comes to trout fishing in rivers and streams of the first thing consider is the size of your line. You always want to use the fishing line that is as light as possible. I always used four test monofilament book. Four pounds of trial is not light enough to be given to trout in the water, and strong enough to land more than any trout ever hook. Some people use the line as light as two pound test, but I always found two books a test of fine to use it effectively. The end result is always wear line that is as light as possible when fishing small trout streams.

Thy rod and reel should correspond to its line of light too. This means that using ultralight rods and reels. The action your rod and reel (which in this case is ultra-light) is determined by the letters "UL". These letters will be printed on the same rods and reels and as indicated in the job description. I use always ultra-light rods, reels and angling light for trout in small rivers and streams.

The next thing to consider is the type of hooks they use. When the trout fishing in running water, one of the most effective bait is live bait, and bait used at any time Band of hooks must be used. This is particularly true when the worms (either live or synthetic) are used. Gang hooks are the means most natural to present worms as bait, which makes a big difference in the rate of biting. The Board of Fisheries will serve you well for many years ahead.

All these boards are very important when fishing small trout streams. In fact, these tips apply to any fish that swims in these types of largemouth waterways goggle-eyed girl of trout to name a few. Now leave and go to attend religious services as soon as possible.
