Fly Fishing Flies

Fly fishing is a challenging and fun activity for many fly fishermen. The challenge is to catch different species of fish. Yet, even catching a fish in fly fishing is already a challenge because it is never easy to master fly fishing. Fly fishing success has many factors. One factor the right choice of lures of fly fishing flies. These are used to imitate insects to lure fish and catch them eventually. The lures or flies may either be surface lures of below the surface lures. Common lures are the surface lures and these types of lures can catch big fishes such as the bass.

Bass fly fishing are now being done in fly fishing tournaments. The challenge is to catch many bass or to catch a bass fast. Most fly fishermen practice hard to master the perfect casting in order to create some commotion that will imitate surface animals to attract the bass. Catching bass in fly fishing is a challenge especially on strong fights on the water (bass are big and they put up a fight when they are catched). Bass are keen in waiting to pounce on their prey just as fly fishermen are keen on waiting for their fish.

The bass are easily attracted to surface flies especially if has distinct color. Most fly fishermen make their own lures when they want to catch bass. Bass fly fishing is dependent on the type of lure being used. The key to bass fly fishing success is on attracting the bass to the lures. This can be done by using dark colors such as brown, black or purple when it the horizon is dimming. Bass fly fishing is usually done when the sun begins to set because this is the time when they start to look for food because surface insects are available. Bass lures or flies can also be made using lighter colors because bass will pounce on any insect. There are insect that have light colors and making a bright colored lure or flies will surely attract the bass. Bass are after big insects but there are occasions that they are up for smaller insects which makes small flies feasible for catching bass.

Aside from the color of the flies, the movement is also a strategy to master when wanting to catch a bass. Each fly fisherman has their techniques in moving their bass bugs. They may cast it on the water without making it move on the surface for a few minutes then give it a slight twitch or movement to make bass think that it is a live insect. Bass are just waiting to pounce on their prey and it can be fun to lure them into some non-living flies and catch them easily. Bass fly fishing might seem easy but it is much more complicated when being studied.

Trout Flies

If you could only choose 3 flies to fish for trout anywhere in the US, what would they be ?

OK, I may as well "come clean"

1) Black bead head wooly booger
2) Small BWO CDC comparadun
3) Copper John

Tough to pick against my beloved Pheasant tail but the CJ has been catching more fish for me in recent years, and tough to go against an Elk hair caddis, but BWOs are always
a good bet anywhere/anytime

I'm leaving the voting up to you guys,
and thanks to all (with a nod to Sage,
Injun, Exert,S_M_C) who took the time to think hard about it and answer.
The Crackleback is an interesting choice

My top three are Woolly bugger , pheasant tail and a Adams dry. You can go anywhere in the world and catch trout on these.

When avid fly fishing enthusiasts are determined to catch bigger trout, fly tying becomes a passion. They often develop their own special methods and patterns that work for them over time. Some even make it a hobby of its own and try to tie flies that look so real that they have to be closely examined to see if they are artificial. As with all things, though, trout fly tying is an art form that must be learned starting with the basic techniques.

The first consideration in learning trout fly tying is the tools that will be needed. A good fly tying vise is the first piece of equipment you will need since you wonÂ’t be able to tie very well if the hook isnÂ’t held firmly. Next is a good, bright lamp to light the work area well. Others tools needed are as follows: bobbins, bobbin threaders, scissors, needle- nosed pliers, hackle pliers, bodkin/half hitch tool, and round toothpicks. As proficiency is developed, other tools that will help in trout fly tying can be added to the list, such as whip finishers that aide in tying off the fly.

The materials needed for trout fly tying will consist of some basics and items specific to the kind of fly being tied. No matter what type of trout fly tying you will be doing, you will need #8 and #10 size hooks, size 6/0 black thread, fine vinyl rib, copper wire and head cement. Other materials that are good to keep on hand for trout fly tying are red wool yarn, medium chenille in black, olive and brown, Grizzly hackle, black and green marabou, medium silver tinsel, strips cut from a plastic freezer bag, pheasant feathers of the type used for hackles on wet flies, pheasant tail feathers, bead eyes and peacock herl.

A basic technique to master in trout fly tying is controlling the bobbin. You donÂ’t want to let it flop around, getting in the way but you do want it to help keep tension on the thread. A good way to do this is to control the bobbin with the small and ring finger of the hand you are tying with and use your thumb and first two fingers of your free hand to work the material. Successful trout fly tying can depend on control of the thread and keeping it tight as you work.

Wrapping the hackle is another basic technique for trout fly tying that should be practiced often. Though there are several ways of wrapping hackle in trout fly tying, a good basic technique for trout fly tying is to take a feather approximately four inches long and strip the fluff off the quill until about two-thirds of the quill is bare. Trim the thick end of the quill off so it is easier to tie onto the hook shaft without being bulky. With your forefinger and thumb, rub the feather against the ‘grain’ until it is spiky. Tie the quill end to the shaft, fold the spiked feather in half length-wise and wrap it around the shaft three or four times so the quill is lined up against itself on the wrap but not overlapping.

There are many techniques in trout fly tying, from tying the thread onto the hook to finishing off the fly, that can be modified to suit the particular person and the type of trout fly tying being done. Each pattern in trout fly tying will have its own techniques. There are different types of flies to tie, such as dry flies, wet flies, nymphs, streamers and bucktails. Experimenting with different techniques and different types of flies will help you to find the best methods for your trout fly tying.

Don't worry if you can't even tie your own laces or all you can catch is a cold, check out Trout fishing Tip for the latest tips and information on trout fishing.

The purpose of any fly fisherman is having the right to attract fish to strike. Trout are notoriously selective when it comes to feeding your instinctive self-protection. But the same size and model for each situation is cumbersome and expensive. So to attract trout, I suggest you make fly fishing lures you in following the water. An Elk Hair Caddis, size 18 (# 18) is number one on the list. Caddis hatches are prolific throughout the country and this fly, it is easy to see, go trout fishing. Caddis fly a standard, often called cinnamon or Brown should be back up # 20, in the case of small Caddis hatch.

The fly is next to be transported and Adam parachute the parachute is easy to see that maggot fly is in the water film. The parachute Adams is good for many types of traps everything when the trout are on the rise Top all that you can not see what you eat. Size 18 is the best, but its size is a size of about 20 to use if the trout do not respond.

To complete the picture of a fly that you should take the following flies: Blue Wing Olive # 20 Pale Morning Dun # 20 Emerge, the two modes of Dark and Light Hendrickson # 18. Light Cahill # 20, Mosquito # 18 and # 20, Golden Stonefly # 16 Black Stonefly # 14 and # 12, and if the fish are rising to the surface at all points an Adams Wulff # 18 or # 16 fatalities Madame X.

Now my favorite way of fishing, because I have caught trout five times more nymphs on the surface. The number one nymph fishing is hare's ear. He made a good ear seems a little wool with a shiny thread woven is the larva of Caddis and all current. I found that smaller is better when fishing nymphs as some of these dimensions may surprise you. Fish size 20 Hare's Ear has fish as big as an arc of 12 books in one. When I address on a rock and Stonefly nymphs are many, I am a Black or Golden Pheasant Tail (PT) # 18. If an Stonefly Hatch is imminent in a few days, I'll use black (# 12) or gold (# 14) Stonefly nymph. If it is a creek or river, brown trout, as Madison or the Trinity River and my other nymphs do not work, I'll use a Bitch Creek (# 16) to scare some measures.

Other nymphs should be carried out are: Brown Czech Nymph # 20, # 20 Olive Scud and Scud Tan # 20. There are two other categories, banners and Emergers. First, the banners, I think you only need two fish and the Woolly Bugger, Muddler. Again, if the fish are not nymphs they must use their natural instinct to find a meal that is leaking. Let two banners I drift a little sooner than let it swing in the area could supply. Strikes are hard and fast. You can also take off one of the banners around the feeding area. Give the action of a minnow LAME is the best way to back streamers. For Emergers, took a lot of trout fishing and emerge just below the surface. Caddis take too long to reach the surface and often struggle to find their wings. Trout enjoy this event and these null and void leveling. Two nymphs are excellent for Emerge Loop Wing Olive # 18 and Loop Wing Emerge Gray # 18. Another one is dry fly fishing the Green River Caddis # 18 Zink caught with little progress and a foot of the cape. You can tell when you have a lightning strike launched by the side of the trout when he turned the nymph. These lures fly fishing cover the largest river trout appropriate.

Does anyone know where you can buy panfish?

My boyfriend wants to buy panfish (bluegill, perch, crappie, etc) for keeping in a "fishtank" or a pond type thing. Does anyone know were you can do this? We tried searching online, but came up empty handed. I'd appreciate the help! Thanks.

you might have to find a pond and get your own......

when I was a kid, we used to go fishing in the fall and throw panfish in our pool to help keep it clean over the winter......they did really well.....and were all still alive every spring.

Dry flies are used to mimic adult insects, so before you fish a trout stream, make sure you have an understanding of what fish normally feed on before deciding to use dry flies. Once you have determined that they will be a natural choice for a particular trout stream, you can apply paste dressing to your flies to allow them to float high on the water. They imitate a wide range of foods, including adult mayflies, caddisflies, midges, grasshoppers, crickets, ants and many others.

The magic of seeing a trout, bass or panfish take a dry fly floating on the surface of the water is one of the greatest sights in fly fishing. Dry flies offer several advantages over wet flies when fly fishing. This is a controversial subject and in a gathering of a dozen fly fishermen, you might have 12 opinions.

Dry flies are made to mimic the final stage of an insect's life. Wet flies are used underwater to imitate minnows, caterpillars, and grubs. Dry flies must have the correct silhouette and be the correct size and float in the right manner.

Fishing with a dry fly attraction pattern is most often taken on during periods when there is little or no surface activity to warrant our attention and allow use of the imitative flies. There are few cases where attractors will work. They could even be as effective as or more effective than the flies that we believe are highly imitative.

Most fly fishermen preferred dry flies for rivers and were not interested in anything else. Some used nymphs, wet flies, cone head leach patterns, dry flies and streamers. Nymphs such as the pheasant tails, gold ribbed hare's ears and halfbacks could be worked in the surface film or add a small split shot and work with them deeper along the weed edges for a great deal of action.

Nymphs are actually the stage right after the buzzer just before the fly hatches. They work well all year long and are excellent when fished deep in the colder months. To get the best result use short fast strips retrieve. Nymphs are made to simulate aquatic insects that have yet to appear as adults. They are still in the underwater cycle of life not yet having reached the adult stage.

Learn fly fishing basics that are necessary to learn how to fly fish. It is not hard, it is just different. Once you are able to master the basics you could fish anytime you choose and catch the fish.

tippet is just fishing line that is rated to match fly fishing standards (it is usually more flexible than most fishing line though). basically other types of fishing rate line in lbs of strength, in fly fishing tippet and leader are rated on line diameter. the diameter is assigned a number followed by the letter X, for example .007" diameter line is 4x and narrower .006" is 5x. the line strength can vary between brands and material types (mono, fluorocarbon, blends). your tippet should be lighter or the same as your leader, so if your have a 5x leader your tippet should be no less than 5x (your could use 5x,6x,7x ect).

tippet is used to lengthen your leader as it gets shorter, every time you change flys your leader gets shorter (I usually add tippet after I lose about 12" of leader) and to tie on droppers (a second fly tied to the first, more common when fishing wet flys like streamers and nymphs).

you don't really need tippet at first, you have enough to work on as it is. you will eventually need it but while your starting out you can just use more leaders as you likely be snapping them in your back cast and catching bushes while your learning anyway (the bush thing happens to all of us, doesn't matter how long you've been doing it, less often with experience but still happens especially when fish like to hang next to banks). and I wouldn't recommend trying to cast more than one bug until you get the hang of things. of course if you want to just jump right it in go for it, really only adds a couple of more knots to learn and does extend the life of your leader.

you'll need tapered leaders (don't worry its by far the most common type out there, and just so you know they are rated off the small end where you tie the fly on) the particular rating you'll need will depend on what fish your after and what weight your rod and line are. your starter kit is likely to be a 6 weight or 5 weight so you'll need a leader somewhere between 3x(strongest)-6x(weakest) at this point a 7 1/2' leader will be a little easier to cast but 9' or 10' leaders will last longer, its up to you but at this point expect to use a lot of leaders, at least a couple a week (as you gain experience they'll last longer, fishing 20-30 hours a week I use about 1 a month). I'd recommend a 9ft 4x leader.

at this point brand doesn't matter just get something cheap, as you figure out what your doing you'll get a better idea of what you need.

if your fly line doesn't have a permanent loop I'd recommend putting one on, they are cheap and make it much easier to put a leader on. many leaders already have a loop for the loop to loop connection some don't but loops are pretty easy to tie.

The river in southern Missouri is one of the most pristine and beautiful country. Winding through some of the most beautiful hills and valleys of the Ozarks has to offer attractive pastoral is evident. The river flows entirely through the Ozark National Park Scenic waterways, leading to the development of riverbeds limited access and the public good. It is a flow float most popular fish in the country.

And no wonder. COLD RIVER, clear water habitat is perfect for rainbow and brown trout. In fact, the river seems tailor-made for trout fishing. Settlers rushed understood and regular supply began in 1900. Although the habitat looks perfect, the trout have not been able reproduce well. Recently, with the new regulations, rather large population of rainbow trout in wild-born, but must still be provided to meet at the fisherman. Brown trout can not reproduce at all in the river, even if they are heavily dependent. The constant temperature water spring water allows the fish to keep healthy and active all year round, even in the heat of summer.

The river has several powerful Springs State Park in Montauk. When the river leaves Montauk, and enters the Ozark National Scenic Waterways, is under the regulations of the blue ribbon trout for next nine miles from Cedar Grove Bridge. Rules here allow the harvest of trout, and there is a 18 "minimum. Lures and flies only allowed. Approximately 10,000 brown trout are stocked in the area of the Blue Ribbon year, and many rainbows migrate to other parts of the River. "Number 400 trout per mile.

The first mile of Blue Ribbon trout water, Montauk Park As the access to the State VAT in May in the best water in the river ford, for fishermen. This water is too shallow to float, it acts as a sanctuary for fishermen Wade. Several rainbow, brown and some big here. Thousands of move Rainbow Montauk State Park in this area each year and usually relatively easy to catch some fish.

Another popular section of river we Tan VAT Baptist Camp Access. There is also a state-wide fishing Wade, although some boats may be found. There is an almost equal number of rainbow and brown trout in this stretch of river. This race is typical of sea trout with a few wrinkles impressive and pools. Fish tend to be a little more selective here as above. Tippet Delicate and small flies are often necessary.

The Blue Ribbon region extends below the 6.5 miles Camp Bautista. Wading is good access to Baptist Camp, Parker Hollow and Cedar Grove Bridge, but the fishing fleet is more popular. A day is a float of Cedar Grove Baptist Camp. Brown trout dominate and tend to become quite large. There are also some rainbow, which tend to stay in the water faster movement. Browns are in deep pools and rifles.

The area of White Ribbon begins in Cedar Grove, and extends 8 miles downstream. The Missouri Department of Conservation stocks the White Ribbon region every few weeks between March and October. Statewide trout regulations are in force, and no bait restrictions. Cafes are not stored at that location downstream, but many migrate upstream. Consequently, many more big brown river came to this area.

The area of White Ribbon can be divided into two distinct sections. The first section ISS 5 miles from Cedar Welch Spring Grove. The river here is relatively slow and shallow, and can get warm in summer. Temperatures on the site occasionally mid 70s. In general, trout are kept in spring and autumn. Some have more trout from year to year, but most fish are fresh from the incubator.

The situation changes drastically below the mouth of Welch Spring, 3 miles to Akers Ferry. Welch Spring is a major source of cold water and kept this part of the river never reach 70 degrees Celsius. For this reason, fish are stocked during the summer. Much more than trout, and some Real trophies are available here. While Akers Ferry, smallmouth bass begin to predominate, and the river becomes the country's best smallmouth streams below the spring round.

The fishing techniques in this are many and varied. This is a surprisingly good fishing fly dry. Trico is "the name of the great river" hatch. Every morning from mid-June to mid September, traps small tricos massive crash. These are small defects for serious, ranging from # 22 - # 30, and requires some skill to fish properly. Caddis also come during the warmer months, and # 16 - # 20 Elk Hair Caddis do well.

Nymphing can be a more popular method. All nymphs standard works well, even Prince, Hare's Ear, Pheasant Tail, the Copper Johns. The best year bet, however, is an imitation Scud # 16. Scud (shrimp freshwater small) are a source of food than any along the river, 365 days a year. They are the best fish around weeds.

Many other techniques have also fished in the creek. Egg imitation flies were more likely fish that all employers combined. Orange, pink, peach, white, and all are good. To San Juan, and coils of different jobs as well. The river also works well for spin fishermen. 1/16-1/32 oz spinners and spoons to almost any brand or color will always be fish. Models of Oz 1/32-1/128 Marabou work very well in black, brown, green and olive.

Whatever the technique you choose to use the river current flow is a big trout. With many miles of trout water, it will be difficult to find a better functioning in southern Missouri. With its beauty and excellent trout fishing is a stream that supports the interests of all fishermen.

The Ozarks is a magical place and is now one of the main reasons why.

Davdison Manning is an avid outdoorsman spending over 100 days per year pursuing his passion for fishing, many of them in the Ozarks of Missouri and Arkansas. He details many of his favorite spots on his website Family-Outdoors. His other pursuits include many days spent in the field camping and hunting. Davidson loves to share his knowledge of the outdoors in the hope of helping others to find their own connection to the outdoors.

Best flies for November trout fishing?

I'm from south central Pennsylvania. What are some hot flies for this weather and this time of year? Any help?

Tight Lines!

Tiny nymphs (size 18-20) pheasant tails, brassies, and small olive bead-heads. BWO hatches should continue to occur on the Little Lehigh, so some small blue wing olives, small tan caddis as well. If your fishing some of the limestone streams scud patterns are a must have in your fly box.

As mentioned by Josh, Wooly boogers and sculpin patterns as well

Pacific Ocean Trash-Should Plastics be Banned? Not many people are aware of a simple issue of whether plastics should be banned as opposed to more popular topics such as gun control or abortion. As an outdoorsman, my stance on gun control is obvious. Guns in the hands of law abiding citizens are rarely at the cause of any gun related crime. As for abortion, I feel that this is a private manner between the women at odds weather to keep a child, or terminate for whatever reason, her family and house of worship. Many women need abortions for many legitimate reasons such as health concerns or rape. The issue that upsets me is the outright ban of plastics. Plastics have found a legitimate foundation in our lives from ease of use, shipping, lightweight, inexpensive, etc. but the burden that these A¢A€AœcontainersA¢A€A and especially shopping bags have on our landfills and now our marine landfills is chocking our resources. You may be asking yourself A¢A€Aœmarine landfills?A¢A€A you have never heard the term but it is real and it affects more than 267 known species, from seals, sea lions, turtles, birds, fish and whales.

Marine landfills are formed from marine trash that winds up into our streams, rivers, spillways, lakes and oceans. The marine trash comes mainly from three additional sources; tourism, shipping and fishing activities. It is estimated that an area larger than twice the state of Texas exists off the cost of the Pacific Ocean between California and Hawaii. This area is called the eastern garbage patch and another mass that floats between east of Japan and west Hawaii, collectively; these areas are known as the GREAT PACIFIC GARBAGE PATCH. (Source: LA Times) This great garbage patch is formed in the broad expanse of the northern Pacific Ocean; there exists the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre, a slowly moving, clockwise spiral of currents created by a high-pressure system of air currents. The area is an oceanic desert, filled with tiny phytoplankton but few big fish or mammals. Due to its lack of large fish and gentle breezes, fishermen and sailors rarely travel through the gyre. But the area is filled with something besides plankton: trash, millions of pounds of it, most of it plastic. It's the largest landfill in the world, and it floats in the middle of the ocean. (CNN 2009 Shelby Lin Erdman) The problems with many plastic materials are that while it is a versatile material, it does break down by being exposed to sunlight into smaller and smaller pieces.

It takes years for the plastic to slowly break down into ever smaller pieces which floats just under the surface. As the plastic breaks down into smaller pieces, it is consumed by marine animals, plankton, fish and birds who mistake it as food. Rusty Brainard with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says this giant garbage patch, in addition to plastic, also contains huge masses of fishing nets, which destroys ecosystems around the Hawaiian Islands. But the plastic is really the toxic killer. While it slowly degrades, it turns into increasingly smaller bits of plastic. Seabirds mistake it for food and they dive down and eat it. Brainard says they find a lot of skeletons of seabirds on the Islands and "their gut content is just filled with plastic." Brainard says that has scientists wondering what other animals are eating this plastic. As the larger animals and marine life eat the smaller animals, this plastic eventually ends up in the human food supply, too. (Source: CNN 2009 Shelby Lin Erdman) The massive amount of trash bags on land are also a huge problem which can cause erosion due to the fact that plastic bags can prevent water to percolate into soil thus causing erosion in sandy areas.

As someone who has lived on and owned several homes on numerous bodies of water, including a blue ribbon trout stream, The Muskegon River and a popular all sports lake in Newaygo County called Hess Lake, I have seen what kind of trash is left in our river, lakes and along our shoreline by unknowing outdoor enthusiasts. The Muskegon River is popular among property owners, fishermen, tubers, kayakers and canoes. The amount of trash left behind my home on a typical weekend was astounding from beer cans, plastic wrap from sandwiches, plastic Ziploc bags for carrying everything from cigarettes, potato chips, ice, snacks, etc that are carelessly discarded either on shore or in our river. Some fishermen also tent to be careless while disposing fishing line, bait tubs, fishing gear wrappers to cigarette butts into our river or on our shores.

Another big concern on our waterways is the use of Styrofoam coolers and worm containers. Should plastics be banned? I am not sure banning plastics is the answer to fight our marine pollution concerns because we use plastics from everything to our phones, computers, chairs, automotive parts and the list goes on almost forever. Maybe public education, conservation and respect of our beautiful natural resources are more adapt to be a solution as to an outright ban of plastics. As more and more people take to an active lifestyle and get outdoors more, then there will then be a solution and not a problem. Should plastics be banned? We may not have to address this problem if you do your part when youA¢A€A™re are enjoying our natural resources by properly disposing your plastic and other trash only in dedicated trash containers. You can also do your part by picking up others trash and debris found in our natural areas, rivers, lakes, streams and oceans. I own a boat and it only takes a second to stop the boat and pick up floating plastics and trash when spotted.

Tying Vise
what is the basic material i need for fly tying?

i am want to buy comletely new fly tying material mainly for well everthing im want to ty for redfish ,sandtrout ,panfish , and bass. and the material has to be about all together 40 dollars i all ready have a vise bobin etc. but im not to sure wat is the basic patterns i need to ty for all those thing if somebody could tell me the pattern that would also be very helpful.

There are books that tell you specificlly what materials to use. i would go to a fly shop or a book store and find some books. i also reccomend 2nd hand book stores. u will find many out of print and cheaper books that r just as good. since you have the tools already u wont need a starter kit. if it is possible return the tools and buy a starter kit which has all the materials and a small book or video. i believe cabelas may be able to help you with ur tying needs and they offer many types of kits.
good luck!
there are many different patterns
basic patterns include wooly buggers, Adams, pheasant tail nymphs and many others like the blue dun
i would buy a fly tying book on the basic patterns
it really boosts self cofindence when you catch a fish on a fly uv tied...
GOOD LUCK AND TIGHT LINES!!!!

Anglers Trout Fly
What are some good tips for a long time bass angler starting to fly fish for trout?

I have been a long time tournament angler for black bass. But starting out (as of last week) fly fishing for trout, casting is ok, but it seems that is one thing that will always need improvement. Would love some tips on books, vids, what flies to use when, ect. I live in MT and have acess to great fishing, so any clues to a good beginner spot would be a plus, and let me know if you want to go fishing!

The internet is full of resources. Coming from a bass background, you may find the most similar and most forgiving set of flies to use are streamers like wooly buggers and clousers because nymphs and dries require more experience to drift without any drag. You can use a heavier tippet like 4x and tie on a lightly weighted bugger, then just work it like you would a jerk bait, jig or plastic worm - up down or across they all work. Try stripping line at different speeds or just letting the fly hang in the current when it gets below you and slowly strip it back. Use a short leader and tippet no more than 8 feet until you get comfortable. Even 6 feet can catch fish if you have trouble getting the cast down with a longer leader. Pay special attention to areas under riffles and it's hard to go wrong. Use these in larger water if you can (2 feet deep is getting into good streamer water), then once you become more comfortable with casting a fly rod you might hook up with a fishing buddy to show you how to drift a dry fly. At that point you'll just need to slow down your cast and watch how others fish - there is little substitute for direct observation. Nymphs are probably the most difficult because if you use an indicator you'll get a lot more wind knots at first, and without one you really have to be familiar with presenting blind, drag-free drifts.

The Nantahala River fly fishing for trout is a feast for all fishermen. Fly fishing in winter and spring can bring problems, but the river is equipped with rainbow, trout and brown trout and should therefore be able to capture at least some fish dry fly, drowned fly or nymph. Fishing in this area is not only a pleasure because you have the opportunity to catch big fish, but many because the region is so beautiful.

Walking through the Nantahala River gorge overlooking the breathtaking that you will never forget. Although the leaves fallen trees that does not mean there are not many impressive views of the river and mountains. The "superior" Nantahala River is given water during the winter and spring, so it should be a population at high trout you catch. During the coldest weather of the year is somewhat of a challenge to fish for trout with dry fly, but it gives you the opportunity to master their nymph fishing abilities.

Using some basic models, such as ear nymph, Pheasant tail hair and you should have no trouble getting at least some bites. Having the ability to recognize and bite the hook is a different story. The trout in the headwaters of the Nantahala River are not too demanding for the presentation of the nymph to these practices should not be a problem. Do not forget to take our strike indicator, as they spit often the pupa before releasing them hooked.

Taking a trip to the mountains of North Carolina for a Nantahala River fishing trip is always a fun and exciting adventure. There are many other opportunities in an around the Nantahala River gorge so make sure to check it out before your next vacation.

Any tips on fly fishing with nymphs?

I have a few in my fly box. I have a Griffith's Gnat, a Pheasant Tail, and I have some dry flies.

It depends on where you are going to fish (river or stream or lake).

The Pheasant Tail is a great fly. You can fish it down near the bottom in the rivers or as a dropper off of a dry fly in either the rivers or lakes.

In the rivers, if you are fishing deep where the fish are, you have to be right down to the bottom, but not with so much weight that it stays on the bottom, it has to float along drag free so play with the amount of leader below the strike indicator and the amount of split shot to find the right combination. One smaller split shot is usually all you need, sometimes two or one larger. The amount of leader below the strike indicator is usually one and one half the depth of the water, but you may need to adjust that.

If you are fishing a smaller stream then you will mostly be casting with out a strike indicator and you will practice on keeping the nymph drag free by just watching it. Mend the line as necessary to achieve this.

For dry flies, when you see a fish working a particular spot, in either a lake or a river, then time your cast. In a lake fish usually work an area they feel comfortable in and will work in a pattern. Watch the rises and try to anticipate where to cast to. Don't cast right to where you just saw a rise. The fish isn't there anymore. Most of the time the fish is down deeper where it is safe and it comes up to take an insect it spotted. As soon as it grabs that insect it turns and goes down again. So, look for a pattern and mentally time the rises, that will give you a good idea on where to place your dry fly and when to place it.

The same rule sort of holds true in most rivers. A fish picks a spot it feels safe in, be it a ledge or a rock or whatever and it stays there. As food comes by, it rises or moves over and takes the insect, then goes back to it's hole.

So, for dry flies, watch to see where a fish rises several times and remembering that as soon as it grabs the fly on the surface it goes back down, get your timing and location to cast to upstream and make your cast. It is best to cast upstream onto the seam the fish is working and let the fly drift down drag free over the area of the fish. Make some casts and if nothing happens and or the fish still rises but ignores your fly, then switch flies and try again.

Feathers are available in many different shapes, sizes and colors. They are also dyed to give plethora of color options for varied uses. The roaster pheasant has long reddish brown feathers on tail and female pheasant has light brown feathers throughout the body. The versatility of pheasant feathers can be seen from using it for decor to art and crafts projects. They are not only used for decorating but are used by many fashion designers to add grace to their models dresses, hairstyles, hats and fashion accessories. They make beautiful Halloween and autumn wreaths. By following simple steps we can make pretty wreaths with pheasant feathers.

1. For making beautiful wreath first of all purchase a grape vine wreath of any shape and size.

2. Take some leaves, fruits and pheasant feathers and tie them with a stick and push around the grape vine wreath if there are no sticks available then glue it around the wreath.

3. Place the fruits in the bottom middle and stick the pheasant feathers around the outer edge with some leaves so that it gives an elegant look.

4. Curl the feathers slightly to add grace to the wreath and if you are using a stick wrap it with the ribbon and then tie feathers, leaves and fruits.

How creatively you use pheasant feathers in decor depends upon your artistic creativity and style. Its use is not only limited to floral arrangements but also try to use them in a vase with floral stems and see how unique pretty look it gives. Also if you add few feathers and okra pods to a straw broom with muted ribbon tied on it and when used in your kitchen or dinning room will add a rustic charm to your kitchen or dinning room. You can experiment with these feathers and embellish your wedding venue or home. Even pheasant feathers make beautiful feathers le bands in addition to "lauhala hats" which are a part of great custom and tradition in Hawaii. It is said that Hawaiian crafts are made without harming the birds.

Pheasant feathers are not only used in adorning hats, costumes, hair styles, ornaments, fashion accessory, bridal ensemble; wedding venue decoration, floral arrangements, arts and crafts but pheasant skins and tails are also of great use. You can even barbecue the pheasant and it proves to be a great alternative to turkey on your holiday table.

Various types of feathers are in demand today like pheasant feathers, peacock feathers, ostrich feathers, eagle plumes etc and many suppliers provide them in bulk to fashion designers, event management companies. These event management companies use them to decorate the venue or place of event so that the venue looks graceful. Pheasant feathers and tails are also used to make beautiful centerpieces which can be placed in the center of the wedding ceremony venue, to decorate the stage or in your drawing room.
