The traveler and historian Aelian Roman Macedonian fishermen had registered using the technique of fly fishing in the 2nd century. However, historians believe that this technique was around long before and it was just named by the Romans. The technique of using flies as bait to capture certain types of fish is giving the technique its name.

Fly fishing is a fishing technique that takes six foot fishing pole and fishing line, six feet long with a fly on the end of the line on a hook. It's basically the end of fly line that gives this technique its name. Macedonian fishermen were, according Romans, very successful at this type of fishing.

The Fly
Fishermen often make an artificial fly on a hook of some clay and wings of a flying insect. In modern times that men have learned to do much more sophisticated flies for their sport. The flies that today range from the simplest to the mechanical decoys. Some fishermen have made the flies of synthetic materials such as wool and plastic color. The wings of the fly, of wool or colored plastic attracts fish while the shape is constructed allows the fly to turn in the water while the fisherman pulls on the spool.

The mistake fly fish spinning for a live insect and biting. Then there are other flies that are more sophisticated mechanics. These can be liquidated to fly in the water at random and make a buzzing noise. This is a great success to attract fish in the area for a meal.

The rod and line fishing
Fishing rods have come a long way since the discovery of the technique. At first, the bars were cut around the waterfront, then the bars became more sophisticated, with manufacturers cutting bamboo cane in four long pieces and then stick them on a more solid basis. This gave the rod a little more spring. Since World War 2, the bars are fly fishing constructed from fiberglass. These bars are much more affordable readily available. It is also possible collapse of these fiberglass rods into smaller pieces so they can be packaged for travel. The bars are larger, however, still available on demand.

The line has also undergone a change during the years. In the first line of fly fishing was made of horsehair, and then with the invention of silk fishing line made of silk but the line still needed to be opened and dried occasionally. After nylon took the place of silk and is still used today.

Although this was a profession in the 2nd century has become an elite sport over the years. The sport of fly fishing is very popular in Europe and America. People invest very high in fly fishing equipment including boats and pay to fly fishing trips to very distant parts of the world.

Rod Reel Line

how do you line a flip reel fishing rod?

i cant figure it out

if you mean how do you put the line on you would just flip it open and spool it around it.

if you want to know how to cast it you open the bail and hold the string against the rod and when you do the casting motion you release near the top of your release (like how you would with a button caster)

its not that complicated at all, just look at the rod. when the bail is open the line will come out, when its not the line won't

When you're learning about something new, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of relevant information obtainable. This informative article should help you focus on the central points related to fishing rods in general. One of the most reliable company manufacturing fishing rods is the Penn Company.

It's been for over eighty years since the Penn Company has started to manufacture fishing equipment. This company has been manufacturing and designing very durable and long lasting fishing gear since 1932. The company has endeared itself so much with the anglers and fishing enthusiasts that the standards set by the Penn angling gear has been fixed as a norm for the required quality criteria for fishing gear in the market.

Though the company is producing several kinds of fishing equipment, their main focus is to make more durable rods and higher quality of reels, but their ingenuity does not finish here. The company also offers a range of trimmings as well to maintain the reel and rod in nice working condition. Apart from this the company also makes a line of particular trill reels which are used for fishing operations on a huge scale and commercial rigs. The equipment that is made by Penn Company is not only durable and effective; it is also very stylish and sleek in its finish too.

The efforts of the Company's research and development department have made the Penn products one of the best in the industry today. The Penn fishing rods are manufactured keeping in view the saltwater angler in mind, and the fishing line that is made is particularly for massive game and fishing in saltwater. So in case you are thinking of fishing in the sea, the fishing rods and line made by Penn would be perfect

Today the new Penn Fishing Rods feature a new look and even better performance. Lightweight yet incredibly strong, Penn Senators feature the power and strength of solid fiberglass blanks. A heavy-duty machined and anodized aluminum-reel stool, gimbals, and cushioned foam fore grip complete these newly styled rods. Senator rods feature a Stuart roller stripper and tip top with chrome-plated ring guides in between.

I want to test a 14" water line made out o poly 3/4" thick and 4000' long for leaks ,how do you do it?

air pressure. A plumbing supply house will be able to set you up. Basically, you will cap off each end, install a needle valve in one end and a gauge in the other. Pressurize it to 90 -120 psi. Leave it 24 hours to check if you have lost pressure.

Secondarily, if you prefer use water, you can put a dye in the system. This will show up more readily if it does leak. Of course this way, the entire pipe must be exposed.

Good Luck,
Mike

It is often difficult for an artist to find a gallery prepared to take their work.  Even if they do find an art gallery, the art gallery may restrict the number of art works hung and space or time permitted for an exhibition.  But the main problem for most newer artists is the question of being unknown.  Unless an artist is already known it is almost impossible to find a gallery willing to handle their work.  But how to become known and how to earn some income in the meantime?

Even when an art gallery is located and terms agreed there is the question of commission and sales tax which can mean that the gallery and the picture framer earn more than the artist.

The commercial aspect of a working life in art is a difficult one to manage.  It is rare that an artist makes a reasonable living from art without having to supplement with other work such as teaching.  An artist can also attempt to raise their profile by entering competitions and with luck and talent gain prize money also.

Artists are turning to the internet to increase their audience exposure and assist in making sales of their work.

Many on-line art galleries however have no selection criteria for work submitted and further they do not permit dedicated space for each artist.  The end result is that an artist's work does not show in any cohesive manner, unless the user already knows the name of the artist and searches for their name.

On-line art galleries can assist developing and established artists achieve increased exposure for their art work and can generate another income source for the artist by providing an alternative exhibition space that could reach a wider audience.

However if a good on-line gallery is chosen which organizes art work with integrity then some increased exposure and increased sales can result.   Of course, it depends what each individual artists expects On-line art galleries can assist developing and established artists achieve increased exposure for their art work and can generate another income source for the artist by providing an alternative exhibition space that could reach a wider audience.  The artist needs to consider how they will arrange payment for their work, shipping methods, returns policies, and even whether a work is sold framed or unframed.  For international shipping it is probably not cost effective to ship framed works unless the work is of very high value and a reputable courier is being used.  With shipping in mind, special attention may need to be made about size and a system of packaging developed.

Some users viewing on-line galleries have no art education so to speak.  Their expectations can be solely based on price.  They often do not know the difference between original and copies (prints).  An artist, listing on-line, can expect to receive a few of the usual sort of scam propositions but these are rare in the art field and fairly easy to spot.

However despite the disadvantages of occasional nuisance, the necessity to photograph all art works and upload them to on-line gallery space, an on-line gallery is well worth considering for all practising artists.

Handtied Fly Fishing

A question many experienced and novice fly fisherman may ask themselves is Why tie my own leaders when I can by them at any sporting goods store or local fly shop? I am not sure if there is a right or wrong answer to that question, but for me it is a way to better appreciate, participate, and understand the sport of fly fishing.

I began hand tying my own leaders a few years ago for several reasons; the first reason was cost, commercially available leaders are just plain expensive, and when you consider the life expectancy of a leader, tying your own looks like an attractive alternative; the second reason was my inept ability at tying my own flies, perhaps my inadequacy in this aspect of fly fishing forced me to try another way to connect intimately with the sport; the third reason was that hand tying my own leaders was a way to provide my fellow fishing partners with personal gifts for each trip we take.

So why would you tie you own leaders? Consider the following:
Cost- Hand tied leaders cost very little, pennies in fact, compared to commercially available leaders.

It is easier and quicker to change and re-tie a hand tied leader when conditions change.

You can create leaders specific to the fishing conditions you fish in most often.

The personal satisfaction of catching a fish on a leader you created yourself.

Lets start with the basics, what is a leader and why is it important?

A leader connects your fly line to the fly.

A leader acts as the medium to transfer the energy of the fly line to the fly during the cast.

A leader relieves the energy from the fly line and sets up the proper presentation of the fly during a cast.

A leader helps presents your fly in a life like manner, dead drifts for nymphs or realistic floats for dry flies.

What are the components of a leader? In order to start tying your own leaders you must first understand the three basic sections of a leader: Butt, Body, and Tippet.

The Butt is a very important section of your leader. It is the section of your leader that begins the transfer of energy from the fly line to your leader. The size of this section of your leader is an important consideration, most recipes call for a butt section with a diameter between .020 to .026. A butt section that is too limp will cause the leader to not properly transfer the energy to the Body.

The Body is created with smaller diameter material and helps keep control of the fly for proper presentation.

The Tippet uses the smallest diameter material in your leader and are usually 16 inches to 24 inches long. Your fly will be tied directly to this section of your leader. Tippet material comes in many different styles and specialty material that will depend on your fishing circumstances.

What are the different types of leader material?
Monofilament - Mono line is the most common leader material to use. Mono comes in a variety of sizes, stiffness and diameters. Most leaders are tied using mono because of the variety, diameters, stiffness, and stretch and abrasion resistance. Fluorocarbon - A synthetic material that claims to be nearly invisible under water by having the same refracting index as water. The debate is still going on whether Fluorocarbon is better then mono. Fluorocarbon is good for the last section of tippet on a tapered leader. Braided Super Lines - A synthetic line made by weaving thin diameter man-made materials to form a no-stretch, low diameter and very strong line. Super lines are usually to limp for leaders, but I like to use short pieces of braided line with full sinking fly lines on short nymph leaders. Knots: What are the best Knots to use when tying different sections of leader material together?

The two knots I use most frequently when joining different sections of leaders are the blood knot and the surgeons knot. You should become proficient at how to tie both of these knots, with a little practice you will soon master these and be on your way to creating your own leaders.

How long should my leader be and other considerations: Leaders can come in all lengths with different diameters in the Butt, Body and Tippet. Your leaders should be built to suit the type of fishing you are planning. For example if you plan on fishing for toothy predators such as northern pike or its smaller cousin the pickerel you need to consider using a tippet with cut resistant material. If you are fishing delicate dry flies you should consider a long fine tapered leader. If your quarry is Salmon or Steelhead your leaders should be abrasion resistant and strong.

Tools: What can I use to help me start creating my own leaders?

I like the software program called LeaderCalc. LeaderCalc has a nice selection of leader recipes for most fishing situations. It also includes a nice feature that allows you to customize the label so you can quickly identify the type of leader, material used and purpose. As with most things in life the best way to become better at creating your own hand tied leaders is to start tying and then use them when fishing. You will quickly gain knowledge that only comes from experience and experimentation with different material, knots and lengths.

Boeing 747 marks a major milestone
The first jumbo jet made its maiden commercial flight 40 years ago today. More than 1,400 of the planes with their signature hump have rolled off the Boeing assembly line. It was the kind of plane that seemed to fit the swinging go-go days with martini-swigging travelers lingering around a bar.

I am looking for information about a fly rod I have bought second-hand ?

The rod is 2 piece 10 ft 6 in Magnamite IM8 Alaskan lines 7-8-9 made by Bob Church. I would like to know how old it could be i.e. when was the rod avaliable comercially and at what price ? Also crucially has anyone used one of these rods and is it any good? Also as I will be primarily fishing Rutland Water would the rod be suitable for deep water trolling? Thanks

Ask the people at the site below (Tel No' on left side as you scroll down), they seem to specialise in Bob Church fishing equipment

http://www.bosfish.co.uk/PRODUCTS/BRANDS/Bob%20Church.htm

You do not need a professional degree to fly an aircraft. Sounds stupid, isn't it? This is Strange but true. So what if you cannot fly and airplane, you have radio controlled jets with you. You can take up flying these radio controlled jets as a hobby too. The rc jets are generally smaller model aircrafts that can be controlled with a remote. The remote has a transmitter and the plane has a receiver. The plane gets the signals from the transmitter and takes directions accordingly. The remote has a joystick and that acts as the transmitter.

Many people across the world have taken up the hobby of flying rc jets. Earlier due to the unavailability of advanced motors and engines, these jets were not very popular. Now the planes come with smaller engines and strong batteries which have made the flying task easier. Different models of aircrafts have come up in a short span of time. The use of these aircrafts is not limited as a hobby. They are being used by the military as well for the purpose of reading weather and other experiments and testing. They can well be used as spy planes as well.

Many aircrafts like the ones with gas turbines are pretty expensive and not everyone can buy it. If you are new to the field of flying these jets, you can try your hand at the entry level or amateur level models that are easier to fly and come for a lesser price. However, the best line of jets is the ones with electric duct fans. The fan is powerful and contains a propeller with a number of blades. These are faster flying planes because the propeller blades move at a fast pace and thus generate more thrust.

Do not go for these aircrafts if you have just started with the hobby. If you have some experience of flying any of the models, then only you should go for the faster versions. You can only fly a plane on a high speed if you have much confidence and experience. Also, you may need a lot of money to buy these faster versions and this may burn up a big hole in your pocket. There are various models according to the speed and the movement process. You can even go for a twin engine craft that has a better performance.

The best options for people who do not wish to spend fortunes on a plane are the simulator jets. The best feature of these planes is that winds do not affect them. The higher models have this feature while the cheaper ones may not have them. Every model comes with different specifications and specialties as well. You cannot fly these planes in small parks. You need good space so that your craft can breathe freely and achieve greater heights. The slower flying ones are still better to use in such spaces as it does not need much space for turning. Experience blood gushing through your veins while you fly a plane and that too without a degree!
