Is this a fair set up for someone to try for the first time trying fly fishing, 6/7 rod and 7/8 reel so what line would anyone recomend going to linconshire for fish hol with friends, and wot about flys i think its for trout mainly thats at the site. thanks for any help given , iam a complete novice.TTFN

That's a good set up, firstly ensure that the reel fits the reel seat on the rod tightly and correctly, for line you should use Grey's GRXI, its at a reasonable price in the UK and is of high quality, the line is the most important thing, so don't buy the cheapest you can find you can get it here

You can get this exact same line for cheaper from an on-line company called the fisherman's tackle company, just search for it and find the line. For the line you buy i suggest you buy a floating and a intermediate line, the intermediate will help you reach fish feeding closer to the bottom. Go with the line from FMTC because you will get a free braided loop to which you can attach your tippet then your fly. You also get free backing from the fisherman's tackle company, this saves you allot since you're just starting out

No doubt, Alaska is one of the most popular places where fishermen can expect to catch a record number of salmon fish. Cool water of rivers, lakes and oceans in the western part of the state are well known for the availability of high quality salmon in large quantities.

In general, you'll find salmon in almost all regions of Alaska. However, if you are looking for large salmon there are several areas known for it. Below I will give you a list of rivers and the type of salmon you'll find in each of them.

Kenai Peninsula and River One of the most well-known hot spots for salmon fishing in Alaska, Kenai Peninsula and the River. Here you can find various kinds of fishes such as Chinook salmon, Chinook, silver and sockeye salmon or red salmon. Weight salmon depends on the variety, but generally adult fish salmon weigh from 25 to 90 pounds.

Golsovia river, on the shore of the Bering Sea, is another area in Alaska, which is world famous for the availability of different types of salmon. Interestingly, except for salmon, you will also find Artic Char fish in this region. Typical varieties of salmon fishes seattle found in this area, chum, pink, silver and king salmon. Yentna River This is another popular destination for lovers of salmon. Although the river itself has a lot of salmon living in its waters, you're not limited to the river alone! This river has many tributaries, which are equally rich in fishing opportunities. Depending on your fishing license, you can make salmon fishing or using a fishing vessel, or grid, or even from shore. this is kind of a stupid question but what is the difference in dry and wet flies for fly fishing i just started.

Dry flies float on top of the water and represent insects in the final stage of life when they are flying around and laying eggs on or around the water.

Wet flies can indicate the ealier stages of the flies, like the larva. When people say wet flies they can mean a couple different things, they can mean nymphs (early bug stage) or emergers (rising bug from bottom) or even streamers (large flies being pulled through current to represent smaller fish or leeches or crawfish or anything that swims underwater.)

A website shows "sizes 8-12". What does this mean and what should I use for trout?

The size of a fly fishing fly is, as you have noted, indicated by a number. The smaller the number, the LARGER the fly. Most trout dry flies run in sizes from 12 - 18, although midges can go down as small as 22 (a real eye-strainer when you are watching them float down stream). Streamers may run larger for trout, say a size 6 or 8 wooly bugger. Your best bet for selecting the right size is to find a book or website that has a hatch table. Most of those will give you the size of the fly that most closely approximates the size of the bugs in that hatch for a specific region during a specific time of the year. A good example of this the "Trout Stream Insects - An ORVIS Streamside Guide" by Dick Pobst. You should also check out the Field Guide "Guide Books" posted on Cabelas.com.
