These are your basic fishing reels:

Spinning reels or some times called open faced reels - a good all around reel. The correct size will handle most fish.

Spin cast reels or some times called closed faced reels - usually not as well built as spinning reels. A good choice for lite duty fishing like panfish. Most kids learn to cast with these reels because of ease of use.

Bait cast reels - designed to cast 3/8 oz. lures or heavier. A little harder to use but once mastered you can cast further and more accurate. A favorite of Pro bass fisherman.

Trolling reels - any reel can be used for trolling , often refered to as a level wind reel {similar to a bait cast reel} these reels can have a line counter on them which counts the amount of feet you have out.

Surf reels - can be either spinning or casting reels, the size to match the species you are fishing for.

cappie minnows, fatheads, and nightcrawlers are the best live bait. Use small #8 0r #10 hooks(smaller if possible) and the lightest line you can get away with. You do not use a bobber or a float. If there is no current, or a light one, you do not need split shot or sinkers. Just let the bait float and drift to the bottom naturally, moving it slightly every few minutes as needed. In areas with heavier current, you need to add the appropriate amount of weight to keep the bait in the fishes strike zone.
When fishing trout, you always want to fish upstream (face into the current) this way, on the retrieve, you bring the bait back with the current which is a more natural presentation. trout like to hold in dead spots in the middle of fast moving water.Look for rocks in deep current and cast past them. Allow your bait to drift past the rock and try to delay it in the dead spot in the current that the rock, or other obstruction creates. When using nightcrawlers or worms I like to cast on top of the rock and slowly pull the bait off of it, slipping the worm into the water slowly on the side of the rock facing me. Also look for deep pools and runs. If the banks are undercut by the current these can be golden spots to drift live bait through. Remember, trout always face upstream(against the current) so try to do the same. This way you will stay behind them so they don't see you, they also won't become spooked by the debris you have disturbed floating past them.
Spinners and spoons are also great means of catching trout. Panther Martins, Mepps, and Rooster tails are popular choices and work well. Sizes #0 thru #2. Smaller is generally better when trout fishing, but certainly not always the case. If the water is muddy or murky, use copper colored spinners. On cloudy days use gold, and on bright sunny days use silver(any color can work any day, but this is the guideline) When spinner fishing from shore, if you cannot fish with the current, try to quarter it. Reel just fast enough to keep the blade spinning, as close to the bottom as possible. Small rapalas and other crank baits can work well also. There is a whole mess of literature on trout fishing, go to you're local bookstore and see what you can find.

This article will focus on the best trout fishing lures and baits. I have fished for trout nearly all my life and got started by fishing in small streams and creeks in Pennsylvania. The water was clear and cold. The woods were strikingly beautiful. But you want to hear about the best lures and baits, don't you?

First off, there are nightcrawlers and red worms, which are a smaller worm that are better for smaller trout. It is vital to hook these worms correctly, looping the hook through the body multiple times, or using a rig with two hooks. Worms don't keep very well, so they may die somewhere throughout your fishing expedition. However, they are very reliable and steadfast, and you will pretty much always be able to catch trout on worms as long as the trout are there.

There are also other live or semi-live baits, such as salmon eggs. Salmon eggs are by far my favorite trout bait for smaller sized trout. You must use a very small hook, tie on a salmon egg and let it drift downstream. Hopefully a trout gobbles it up, you reel him in, and then later that night you gobble him up. Minnows are like salmon eggs for larger trout. It can be difficult to catch trout who have survived in the wild for several years using artificial baits - they are very suspicious. For these larger trout smaller minnows, preferably of a species that live in the creek you're fishing in, are the best.

Small spinning lures and jigs can work well, depending on the conditions. Small spinning lures are by far the best lure for catching trout (well, besides flies, but we'll get to that in a bit). These in-line spinning lures work best when the trout aren't hungry or are lazy, in this way you can agitate a fish into biting the lure when they aren't attacking natural baits. Jigs tend to work best with a slow presentation, and in the colder months.

Fly fishing is another method of trout fishing entirely. The line is weighted to allow you to cast, because you have to use a very small lure. The lure itself is called a fly, which is essentially a hook with small feathers, colored strings, and other things tied onto it in order to make it emulate a natural insect. When you cast out the fly, it drifts across the surface as it is carried downstream, looking a lot like an insect to trout beneath the surface. This is a very effective method of trout fishing, and the one preferred by many. You can even make your own flies, a delicate process known as fly tying!

There are also some artificially created pastes, nuggets and gobs that are sold for the purpose of trout fishing. Some of these work and some of them don't, however I wouldn't recommend using them unless you plan on eating the trout, as they often get swallowed immediately. Releasing the fish with a swallowed hook is a bad thing to do, as the fish will die within days. The trout seem to like the taste of this powerful bait, and I have used it from time to time, however the cost can be a bit prohibitive. That being said, they do work well, so I won't speak ill of them.

That's about it, for all of the best trout fishing lures. Of course we're talking about small to medium sized freshwater trout - not huge lunker lake trout or ocean species of trout. You'll have to check out some future article to find out what I use for those.

The purpose of any fly fisherman is having the right to attract fish to strike. Trout are notoriously selective when it comes to feeding your instinctive self-protection. But the same size and model for each situation is cumbersome and expensive. So to attract trout, I suggest you make fly fishing lures you in following the water. An Elk Hair Caddis, size 18 (# 18) is number one on the list. Caddis hatches are prolific throughout the country and this fly, it is easy to see, go trout fishing. Caddis fly a standard, often called cinnamon or Brown should be back up # 20, in the case of small Caddis hatch.

Now my favorite way of fishing, because I have caught trout five times more nymphs on the surface. The number one nymph fishing is hare's ear. First, the banners, I think you only need two fish and the Woolly Bugger, Muddler. Again, if the fish are not nymphs they must use their natural instinct to find a meal that is leaking. Let two banners I drift a little sooner than let it swing in the area could supply. Strikes are hard and fast. You can also take off one of the banners around the feeding area. Give the action of a minnow LAME is the best way to back streamers. For Emergers, took a lot of trout fishing and emerge just below the surface. okay. start with plastic worms. get an assortment. sizes/colors.
add to this some soft plastic topwaters. rage tail shad and toads by strike king. 5/0 or 6/0 extra wide gap offset hook.
a few spinner/buzz baits. different blade styles and different colors but mostly white/chartreuse. be sure to have a couple colorado blades in the mix.
l like (love) rico poppers by lobina lures but they're just so damn expensive. l wade into the lake to retrieve hung ones and there is no body contact allowed.
rebel pop-rs and zara spooks by heddon round out what l use most.
l don't use many crankbaits. sorry, you're on your own. just match them to the shad or whatever your local forage is.
SM bass:
downsize these for smallmouth.
don't forget the float 'n' fly combo for them though. and the regular assortment of smallmouth jigs.

There are many factors that will determine the best way to fish for big Walleye.

Let's start with fishing the early part of spring, which will find the walleye getting themselves right up next to the shore near sandy areas and sand bars, rocky points and weeded areas that have sandy bottoms nearby.

During the spring months, the smaller sized male walleye tend to stay close to the shore, but the bigger female walleye look for a bit deeper waters.

Spawning walleye are aggressive and ready to bite just about anything, and they will spawn in current, so these areas are usually key to walleye fishing success in the early spring months.

Walleye fishing lures to use, try jigs, use about 1/4 or 1/8 ounce jigs with black, green, yellow, or white twister tails. If you are looking for one all purpose twister tail, choose white, I find it will work for you through out the year.

Fishing for trophy sized walleye is best done at night. Troll slowly right next to shore, especially where there are weedy areas with sandy bottoms. Trolling with spinners (night crawler harnesses) is probably the most productive way to catch walleye.

Trolling with crank baits, fishing jigs, and slip bobbers will all catch fish, but nothing beats harnesses. On natural lakes, troll the weed edges and break lines. I like to use mainly leeches. Mr Twisters in White or Black near the bottom. Erie Dearies with a large night crawler (worm).

In the summer and fall I like to use bigger baits or lures. Small ones in the spring. Using White Twister tails is one of the best, but in the spring the Walleyes are more aggressive and will hit colors like chartreuse, pink, yellow or orange.

These colors only work in the spring because the Walleyes are hitting them to defend their spawning grounds and not for feeding.

You can also add a leach, worm, minnow or Walleye gullet to the jig to get more action but it's usually not needed. Also try fishing on the bottom from one hour before dark until after dark. This will help produce results.

For more than twenty five years I've been using ultra light fishing tackle and have learned that fishing with ultralight gear is one of the most enjoyable ways to catch fish. When I use the term 'tackle' or 'gear' I'm referring specifically to the rod, reel, and line that are employed while fishing. When you downsize your rod, reel, and line, the baits and lures that you use will also become smaller, mostly out of necessity.

This type of fishing can be done for type of fish. In my opinion 'ultra light' fishing is simply matching your rod reel and line to the size of fish you intend to catch, then as your skills become better, it means catching fish larger than your gear and line would suggest. For example catching five to six pound trout or smallmouth bass while using a four foot ultra light rod and matching reel, spooled with four pound test. The same rule holds true when fishing for ten pound steelhead with a medium action rod and reel, spooled with eight pound test.

Fishing with light tackle also makes you become a better angler. It forces you to learn how to "play" your catch, rather than just winching your fish in. I'm not a fly fisherman, but one of the best quotes ever made came from the fly fishing movie A River Runs Through It. In this movie the reverend Mclean is said to have said, "Anyone who does not know how to catch a fish should be able to disgrace that fish by catching it."

To me this quote sums up ultra light fishing quite nicely. This type of fishing literally forces you to become a better angler and learn "how" to catch fish, rather than relying on some sort of luck from the fishing Gods. The bottom line is that if you use quality rods, reels, and line ultra light fishing will most certainly result in catching more fish. This is one of the keys to ultra light fishing tackle. You always want to purchase quality gear and line.

When fishing with ultra light gear that gear gets put to the test. The drag on your reel, for example, is of the utmost importance. This is why purchasing quality reels such as those made by Pflueger, is so important. How about fishing line? I've always been a fan of Stren monofilament, although any name brand manufacturer will work fine. Skimping on the cost of line is never a good idea when it comes to ultra light fishing tackle.

The same rule applies to your fishing rod. In many instances sub par quality ultra light rods have a very "whippy" quality to them. When you hold them in you hand and shake the rod tip, it feels almost as if you're holding some sort of whip. An ultra light rod should have some 'backbone' to it for quality hook sets. Although they are a bit expensive, St. Croix makes great light fishing rods that last a lifetime and perform wonderfully.

The bottom line is that light fishing tackle is the way to go if you want to catch more fish, have more fun, and become a better angler. Give it a try and find out for yourself just how enjoyable fishing with ultra light tackle can be.

In this article I want to discuss some of the more popular fishing lures in the hopes that I can narrow the choices down to the best fishing lure. Actually, I believe that the term the best fishing lure is different for every angler, I mean come on is one fishing lure actually the best? Of course not, there are different fishing lures for different fishing situations, so what I'm going to discuss the most popular, and you can make your own decision as to which fishing lure is actually the best fishing lureÂ…for you.

Obviously, when it comes to fishing lures, trying to figure out which is the best can be a tough decision. There are literally tens of thousands of choices available and navigating through those choices can be a tall order. With this article I hope to cut through some of the BS and give you some real world information, and even some suggestions as to the effectiveness of this or that fishing lure. Lets begin our search for the best fishing lure, shall we?

• Top Water Fishing Lures - Top water fishing lures are just what the name suggestsÂ…fishing lures that are fished on the surface, or top, of the water. These fishing lures can imitate wounded bait fish, frogs, or even small mammals. I've always had success with frog imitation poppers and minnow imitation top water plugs such as the Zara Spook. A great tip for fishing top water lures is to do it when the water is as calm as possible, the more the surface of the water is like glass, the better top water fishing lures will work.
• Spinners & Spoons - I'm grouping spinners and spoons together because I believe they are in the some family. The both imitate baitfish (for the most part) and can both be quite effective as fishing lures. The two most popular versions of spinner and spoons are probably Rooster Tails for spinners and Daredevils for spoons. A daredevil spoon in the colors red and white have long been known as a great pike bait. Rooster Tails are wonderful for trout and smallmouth bass fishing. Are spinners and spoons the best fishing lure? ThatÂ’s for you to decideÂ…
• Minnow Imitations - Minnow imitation fishing lures are more than likely the type of fishing lure that all of the world is the most familiar with. These are the fishing lures that look like bait fish and come in all of the sizes and colors that actual baitfish are available in. These types of fishing lures are also available in colors that only a 3-year old could love. There are minnow imitation fishing lures that dive a few feet deep to as many as thirty feet deep. You can cover the entire water table with minnow imitations. The most popular of these types of fishing lures has to be Rapala's. Rapala's are made from balsa wood and are a very lifelike, realistic, and effective fishing lure. Another lifelike and realistic fishing lure is the KickTail Minnow. The KickTail Minnow is fairly new to the fishing lure market and looks as much like a real bait fish as anything that I've ever seen. The general rule of thumb is to clear any storm by at least 20 nautical miles from the edge of the precipitation returns (not the center of the storm). When clearing a storm from above, it's recommended to allow 1,000 feet for every 10 knots of wind aloft, i.e. if the winds are 60 knots, clear the storm top by 6,000 feet. These distances are never (or should never be) sacrificed for the sake of saving time.

There shouldn't be any airline out there that would intentionally go near or through thunderstorms to save time. That's not negotiable for most people. I don't think the pilots actually knew about the storm there because they would have warned people about it and have the flight attendants discontinue meal service well ahead of the time they got that close to storms.

The only time I have "clipped" the edge of a storm was a rapidly developing storm. There was nothing showing up on my radar. I was flying in clouds, so it was an embedded storm that I couldn't see with my eyes. Suddenly, my radar went from nothing to yellow and red about 8 miles in front of me within a matter of about 20 seconds. I made an immediate 90 degree turn away from it, but I still got a few good jolts out of it, even though I did not go through it.

The even trickier turbulence is clear air turbulence. Turbulence doesn't always come from storm cells. Clear air turbulence is experienced far more often and it poses a problem because it cannot be detected - pilots must rely on the reports of other pilots. Often, the turbulence can extend in areas hundreds of miles long and at altitude ranges of tens of thousands of feet. There's often just no way to avoid it. Many injuries happen each year as a result of clear air turbulence. It's never because something on the airplane failed - it's always because people are walking around or aren't buckled up.

To directly answer your question, no, airlines shouldn't fly into known turbulence like that just for economic reasons. Some pilots may feel the pressure to take shortcuts, but all training warns against those mental traps and it goes against just about any company's policies.

Fishing reels are sometimes taken for granted and not many people take time to think about the Intricacies of fishing reel parts. They are the device that brings the fish in, and modern fishing reels are fairly complicated devices. The spinning reel is the most popular version used in fishing today, but it is not always the best choice for many types of fishing. You should never guess as to which reel will be the right choice for you while browsing the aisles are a fishing supply store. In most cases ten pound test line is as tough as you need, so your reel should not exceed the diameter needed by ten pound test line. However, if you are into serious saltwater fishing you may need a bigger reel and line.

One of the most important fishing reel parts are the gears as these are what connect the crank to the spool. The ratio of the gears determines how many revolutions the spool makes when one revolution of the crank is made. And example would be a ratio or 4:1. This means that turning the crank once makes the spool turn four times. Having a lower ratio, such as 3:1 is advantageous for reeling in bigger fish as it provides more torque. The downside is that the process will be slower. For smaller fish a higher ratio can be used since less torque is needed. The upside is that you can reel the fish in faster.

Drag systems are what apply the pull on a hooked fish, but let the line out when the fish is fighting. This helps absorb the energy of the fish and prevent a broken line or dropped reel. The ball bearings in the reel help keep the action smooth, which aids in a very confident and consistent reeling motion.

Your fishing reel parts when assembled together are the mechanical components that helps you actually bring the fish in. If the reel is not up to the task, you will not catch the fish even though it took the bait. Do not skimp on your reel, but also do not buy a reel that in excessive to your needs as an oversized reel will make catching smaller fish more difficult.

Bass fishing has grown in popularity, both within the amateur and professional or competitive fields. To become a successful bass fisher, you must learn which bass fishing lures are appropriate. These bass fishing lures will vary depending on whether it is a morning or an evening fishing trip, the area, the body of water and the water depth. Below are a few suggestions regarding the bass fishing lures that are available and the best ways to use each lure.

One of the most interesting bass fishing lures is crank bait. Crank lures imitate an injured or weak fish through using slow movements. They can be used on top of the water or as a sinking lure. They also provide a cranking noise which the bass often finds intriguing and attractive.

Jigs are a heavier bait with a lead head and usually a single hook. They are very versatile because they are useful in cloudy AND clear water types and can be used during all times of the day. The jig is most effective when the water temp is less than 60 degrees.

Spinner baits have a large, spinning, metal fin that agitates the fish. This causes the fish to attack the lure. These bass fishing lures can be used anytime and are especially effective when the bass are spawning because during that time they are less interested in finding food.

Vibrating lures are made of plastic or metal that vibrates. They easily sink to the bottom of even deep waters. There are a wide range of bass fishing lures that can be considered vibrating lures, such as tail spinners. Tail spinners are metal baits that have a small spinning tail that lure the bass. These fishing lures are best used near tree stumps, watery beds of grass, logs, near deep water or near river currents.

Rubber worms are less annoying than lively worms, but some anglers find them to be less effective. To most get the most out of your rubber worm you should add a weight to the lure to cause the bait to sink to the bottom, then slowly reel the lure back in.

Grubs are very attractive to bass. They have a soft body with a hook attached to a head of a jig. It is the perfect bass fishing lure to use when there is insufficient cover in a highland body of water. They are also most useful in deep, clear bodies of water so that bass can see there color patterns.

Poppers can be an effective lure for bass, but are not as versatile as others.They are most useful only during the summer months and can only be used on top of the water. When you slowly reel these lures in, they create a popping motion on top of the water.

Docile, hard to catch bass is a problem that can be solved with tube jigs. These bass-specific lures work best with a spinning reel on a medium to medium-light action fishing rod.

they imitate fresh water shrimp, the real thing is hard to see but they are around, you'll usually find them in shallow water with little to no current and next to cover (weeds, reeds ect) in still water they will be suspended in the water in rivers they tend to be in the cover and toward the bottom. really more of a lake bug but they are in rivers too. scuds can actually pass for several other things if the fish aren't being to selective (uncased caddis, dobson fly).

I've used them when I've run out of caddis nymphs, usually clipped the legs off though. I use them is slow runs, usually suspended below an indicator next to weed beds, they'd be good for lakes and ponds but I don't really fish them very much, rivers are more my thing. and yes they catch fish as long as that is what the fish are eating and you present them correctly.

The river in southern Missouri is one of the most pristine and beautiful country. Winding through some of the most beautiful hills and valleys of the Ozarks has to offer attractive pastoral is evident. The river flows entirely through the Ozark National Park Scenic waterways, leading to the development of riverbeds limited access and the public good. It is a flow float most popular fish in the country.

And no wonder. COLD RIVER, clear water habitat is perfect for rainbow and brown trout. In fact, the river seems tailor-made for trout fishing. Settlers rushed understood and regular supply began in 1900. Although the habitat looks perfect, the trout have not been able reproduce well. Recently, with the new regulations, rather large population of rainbow trout in wild-born, but must still be provided to meet at the fisherman. Brown trout can not reproduce at all in the river, even if they are heavily dependent. The constant temperature water spring water allows the fish to keep healthy and active all year round, even in the heat of summer.

The river has several powerful Springs State Park in Montauk. When the river leaves Montauk, and enters the Ozark National Scenic Waterways, is under the regulations of the blue ribbon trout for next nine miles from Cedar Grove Bridge. Rules here allow the harvest of trout, and there is a 18 "minimum. Lures and flies only allowed. Approximately 10,000 brown trout are stocked in the area of the Blue Ribbon year, and many rainbows migrate to other parts of the River. "Number 400 trout per mile.

The area of White Ribbon begins in Cedar Grove, and extends 8 miles downstream. The Missouri Department of Conservation stocks the White Ribbon region every few weeks between March and October. Statewide trout regulations are in force, and no bait restrictions. Cafes are not stored at that location downstream, but many migrate upstream. Consequently, many more big brown river came to this area.

The area of White Ribbon can be divided into two distinct sections. The first section ISS 5 miles from Cedar Welch Spring Grove. The river here is relatively slow and shallow, and can get warm in summer. Temperatures on the site occasionally mid 70s. In general, trout are kept in spring and autumn. Some have more trout from year to year, but most fish are fresh from the incubator.

The situation changes drastically below the mouth of Welch Spring, 3 miles to Akers Ferry. Welch Spring is a major source of cold water and kept this part of the river never reach 70 degrees Celsius. For this reason, fish are stocked during the summer. Much more than trout, and some Real trophies are available here. While Akers Ferry, smallmouth bass begin to predominate, and the river becomes the country's best smallmouth streams below the spring round.

The fishing techniques in this are many and varied. This is a surprisingly good fishing fly dry. Trico is "the name of the great river" hatch. Every morning from mid-June to mid September, traps small tricos massive crash. These are small defects for serious, ranging from # 22 - # 30, and requires some skill to fish properly. Caddis also come during the warmer months, and # 16 - # 20 Elk Hair Caddis do well.

Nymphing can be a more popular method. All nymphs standard works well, even Prince, Hare's Ear, Pheasant Tail, the Copper Johns. The best year bet, however, is an imitation Scud # 16. Scud (shrimp freshwater small) are a source of food than any along the river, 365 days a year. They are the best fish around weeds.

Many other techniques have also fished in the creek. Egg imitation flies were more likely fish that all employers combined. Orange, pink, peach, white, and all are good. To San Juan, and coils of different jobs as well. The river also works well for spin fishermen. 1/16-1/32 oz spinners and spoons to almost any brand or color will always be fish. Models of Oz 1/32-1/128 Marabou work very well in black, brown, green and olive.

Whatever the technique you choose to use the river current flow is a big trout. With many miles of trout water, it will be difficult to find a better functioning in southern Missouri. With its beauty and excellent trout fishing is a stream that supports the interests of all fishermen.
