what is the best fly fishing trips?

i want to take a fly fishing trip with my family of 4 and only 2 of us want to fly fish i was thinking that i could go sum time this summer . and one day guided thent he rest of the days we will go back to the same stop un guided .but i need help choosing wat to do i want to fish for maybe in the ozarks . help

The above answers depict how I and many others spool a spinning reel, BUT, the BEST way to spool a spinning reel is in the video below --

This way is more time-consuming than the "old-fashioned" way but it prevents dreaded line twist or "loops" in spinning reels. If you want to do it the way that most of us do it, follow the other guy's advice aboce.

Are you new to fishing? Have you been getting confused with different kinds of fishing advices, various fishing methods given in books and many kinds of fishing equipments available in stores? In order to simplify the fishing matters, here are the basic fishing tips for your first time fishing adventure.

1) How to fish with bait

* Tackle. To plunk the bait, you should purchase lead weights. Depending on the current of the environment, you should change the weight of the lead. Anglers commonly use and recommend bank sinkers with a number-two hook.

A swivel is generally needed to avoid sinkers to slide. It will act as a stop. To protect the knot, you could use plastic beads between the swivel and weight. If you use two appropriate swivels, you can actually rig the sliding sinkers.

* Bait. The commonly used bait for all kinds of fishes is worms. Another popular bait is chicken liver. An important tip is to purchase fresh bait and keep them cold so as to avoid them from getting soft and allowing the bait to stay within your hooks.

Some of the other commonly used baits are cut-baits which include skin from fried chicken, fish entrails, grasshoppers, salmon eggs, shrimps and crayfish tails.

2) How to fish: There are three basic methods for fishing.

* Plunking: It is the most common method used. In this method, you need to take hold of the bait in a position which is against any current. You can do this by using a suitable amount of weight. Another way of plunking allows to use minimal weight for the bait to move along with the water current.

* Back bouncing: It is done by lifting the bait out the bottom and raising the tip of the rod for one to two feet. Allowing the bait to walk with the current, you should free the back reel or spool. Repeat the steps when the lure settles down on the bottom. Back bouncing is effective in deeper water like fishing in a boat.

* Drift-fishing: This is an easy way of fishing in which you cast upstream or downstream. This may vary depending on the current's amount. You should count the appropriate depth and start reeling.

3) How to fish from a boat: The most important factor in fishing from boat is the location from which you would carry out your fishing. You need heavier jig heads in deep water fishing as compared to the on shore fishing.

* With heavy weight which keeps your bait near the bottom of the water and the line straight down from your boat, you are able to drift the boat along with any current. A good technique of fishing on boats is trolling slowly with a fishing device called bottom-walker.

Fly fishing dry and wet fly hooks?

I recently bought size 12 and size 16 tiemco dry fly hooks. Can I also use these hooks for nymphs (hares ear, copper john, prince nymphs etc) or do they not sink well enough?
well they sink as well as nymph hooks though.

Yes you can use them for tying nymphs, the major problem you will be facing here is hook strength as a lighter wire is used for dry flies. As for sinking you can counter that with a beadhead or if you don't want to use a bead Gehrkes makes a product called "Xink" that is used for wet flies.(Gehrkes makes "Gink" for dry flies)

Yes, they will sink as soon as the fly gets soaked. Still I reccommend either using a bead or using a regular nymph hook.

My favorite fly fishing technique in the late summer/ early fall is performed with a dry line and long leader in rather shallow water using a tiny "hyalella shrimp".

The onset of cooler weather triggers the fish to start their pre-winter gorge. Hyalella shrimp are plentiful in marl bottoms and along the shallow weed beds. In many of the Kamloops lakes you will find fish cruising in as shallow as 2 feet of water, adding "sight fishing" to dramatically intensify the experience. A good pair of polaroid glasses come in real handy too!

I don't know why the long leader makes a difference but it does. We tie our own 20' to 24' fluorocarbon tapered leaders. The fish cruise through, sometimes in schools, sometimes by themselves, picking their way along the bottom, sucking up the tiny shrimp by the hundreds.

The retrieve is probably the most important. Without using a strike indicator, just cast alongside the weed bed (or to the fish if you see them), letting the shrimp settle to the bottom. Gently tighten the line so that it straightens. With the patience of hanging a chironimid, slowly retrieve the shrimp. Let it settle occasionally and continue to retrieve. Vary the speeds from extremely slow to short, light, 2 inch bursts. If you are casting over the weeds you will have to adjust your speed accordingly to prevent a hang-up.The flies are so small that they move along quite well over the weeds as long as you keep the fly moving.

Hyalella shrimp are a food staple for rainbow trout, particularly in the fall as they flourish in the marl or in weed beds. A few times my fishing buddy K.J. and I have actually seen fish that have committed involuntary suicide pursuing a vein of shrimp in the marl. What appears to happen to them is they chase the shrimp as they retreat into the marl eventually getting their heads stuck in the marl. If the marl goes past a portion of the gill plate, the fish get stuck, like on a barbed hook, and can't back out. They then smother to death. It's a rare event to see.

Here are a list of lakes that I like to sight fish with hyalella shrimp in shallow marl in the Kamloops Area. These lakes all have white bottomed marl (except Bleeker)

Peter Hope - Huge marl flats all around the lake

Roche Lake - the south end and south east islands

Black Lake- near Roche Lake - fabulous structure around the lake

Hosli Lake - near Roche - need a 4x4 here if the road is wet or muddy. The mid-lake shoal by the rocks is also known for it's fabulous sedge hatches in June and July.

Bleeker Lake - near Roche Lake

Community Lake - extensive flats along shoreline and around the islands

...and many more.

Occasionally, when you are fishing large marl flats like at: Peter Hope lake, Roche Lake and even Community Lake, there is a possibility that you may see what I am talking about. My friend KJ and I have found a few 4-5lb fish dead, tail up and head buried, over the last couple of years. It's eerie to look at.

Be prepared for a crazy fight, especially when the fish are over 20 inches and in the shallow water. The lack of depth takes the vertical dimension away from the fish so the run horizontally, frequently in multiple circles around the boat. My personal record count is 6 complete circle tows before I landed the fish.

Hyalella shrimp have a full range of natural colours with varying degrees of natural shades. Try light beige to brown, light mint green to olive dark green or even gray or orange patterned shrimp. The late Jack Shaw(legendary fly tyer and fly fisherman) tied an "opalescent shrimp" and used it with great success. His pattern is vividly illustrated in the new book by his old friend Ralph Shaw, titled "The Pleasure of His Company". (see below)

Tiemco scud hooks-2487 and Mustad-3906B #12, #14 and #16 seem to work best for me. Body material is usually natural or synthetic dubbing or ostrich feather strands. Occasionally I will put a tiny glass bead head on the size #12's but I rarely pull a back on them... I usually just trim the material short on the top side of the hook and apply some gloss. A fine rib (clear, red, gold or silver) is acceptable but not necessary.

Another note... rainbow trout will cruise these marl shoals and weedbeds all day however they appear to be most active in low light conditions (overcast) or when the sun is in a low position... 2 hours before sunset or within 2 hours after sunrise.

It takes a lot of patience, even for experienced fishermen to master this technique but when you do, you will be well rewarded and forever smitten.

I recommend a Super Duper silver and red lure, or even the red and gold they offer. There are also Rooster Tails that work really well, you will have to see what colors work in your area. Lastly, Panther Martin lures work well for these kinds of fish. Just so you know, all those listed above work well when you are trolling in a boat, but are also very effective from shore as long as there isnt any obsticles in the way that will snag your lure. rapalas are generally used for bass fishing, and I have never had a trout bite a Rapala.

There has been a sort of evolution of float tube fly fishing. The progression from doughnut tire-like tubes to U shapes and V shapes that make it easier to get in and out of, as well as more simple to maneuver when you are out there on the water. what in your opinion is the best fly fishing vest made?

Best one made-Would have to be the Simms G3 Guide MKii vest, lots of storage and very comfortable, but then they should be for $200.
One piece of advice i would give you is don't go down the route of Fishpond fly vests, they are NOT comfortable and don't adjust so that they sit on even proportions of your body, i would look into either the more simple Simms vests or Orvis.

If searching for a vest one with a Teflon coating and made from a synthetic material like nylon-this helps it stay light and dry easily, modern vests have neoprene shoulders which help as they stretch to distribute the weight.

There are many anglers in this country that fish with live worms. How do I know this? I think the fact that in many regions of the country, each store worthy of the name to "bait" as a point in his shop, and "bait" is, of course, include towards. I imagine that if the worms live are sold in stores are very popular. Or worms that live are used in some secret recipes I do not know. The conclusion is that fishing with live worms is incredibly popular, however, most fishermen do not know how. Most fishermen believe that fishing with live worms means simply "threading" a worm on a hook for fishing and drawing. This is not the case.

I must say, I have only contempt in my heart for all the idea of fly fishing but without "A River Runs Through It" is my favorite movie (not because of the lighting Flea, of course). In this film, the reverend McLain is quoted as saying: "Whoever does not know how catch a fish, you should be able to disgrace that fish by catching him. "I could not agree more with this sentiment, especially in fishing with live worms.

For me, fishing with live worms is the kind of fly fishing gear has never professed to be. The first aspect of fishing with live worms is to use a set of hooks. A gang hooks is simply a pair of small hooks attached pair, which allows the angler to present a live worm in a completely natural. This is far from simply "threading" a worm on a hook or creating the dreaded "worm ball". The act of using a series of hooks could not be more easy. I mean it's just 1 more hook that you're probably earlier. The only difference is that the brackets are smaller than you're probably accustomed to use and which are connected in parallel.

With a small research group can you link your gang hooks yourself or buy ready to fish, there is no difference on how to obtain the true band hooks. The important thing is to start using them for fishing to live. Just meaning that the more your bait looks like it would be in the nature bites you get. And when was the last time you have seen a worm all the "ball" in nature? The attribute rel = "nofollow" href = "http://www.jrwfishing.com/gang_hooks.asp"> more natural bait fish is better.

Fishing with live worms, but also to carry their fishing grounds. If you are a fisherman sedentary and do not move from side to side, not a problem. Just take a container of worms in; are sitting next to you and your good to go. However, if you move from one area to another (like me), bringing the container line is a pain in the ass. The best way to address this problem by using a bait bag. A bait bag is simply a bag hanging on his fishing vest, belt or a shirt bearing her to live.

In other words, you live to delete from its container and put it in your bag bait. Leave Then the container that is to come into your vehicle. This way, your fishing to hang waiting to be used. Your verses are literally at hand. As for the band hooks with a little research you can make your own bag of bait, or you can buy one, makes no difference. What matters is that you start using one. What's the best material to use, when constructing your own furled leaders for fly fishing?

I've been playing with making my own, as I like them. I've only used cheap mono, so far. What is the best construction for a furled leader?
Haz. LMFAO. You cheeky minx!

I use Maxima as (in my experience) it is abit stiffer and stronger than other brands, being that way, the transfer of energy from the cast enables a nice presentation.

If I'm fishing with nymphs I prefer florocarbon (Seaguar being my preferred brand). You can tie the entire leader from floro, but you can get by quite nicely using only the lower 2 or 3 sections depending on water depth.

Floro will sink and is virtually invisible to fish making it a superior choice for subsurface angling, while traditional mono is more buoyant, making it better for dry fly presentations.

The "standard" formula for constructing your own leader is the 60-20-20 principle, I'vee attached a link that will explain in great detail all you need to know about leaders as well as a "calculator" for you to tie your own.

Now, if you must, I'll address the furled leader: I am not a big fan of them because I don't believe they are worth the cost and I don't think that they are very versatile (others may disagree, and that's OK)

One of the interesting "fly fishing strategies" to exit "as Kamloops Lakes" in recent years is the use a micro leech trout - Fly pattern "in a line to dry with a" strike indicator ".

Traditionally, black leeches or blood is usually taken with a sinking line or cast along drop offs at the bedside of weeds controlled or open water. In shallow water, I would use a weighted fly line dry or intermediate.

These days, one popular forms of this fish for trout fly pattern is to suspend the micro leech - Just over a bed of grass or the bottom surface using a strike indicator. It seemed strange at first, but when you think, does common sense.

The leech is a staple of fish throughout the season with high interest spring and autumn, when the hatches of insects are not available. Fish cruising along the drop offs next to or on the beds of poor grasses in search of any food which may depart from their sanctuaries. Using a strike indicator on the leader, with a slow recovery or drift, you can serve dinner while reducing the risk of being trapped in the bush.

Here are some strategies and certain standards or other little when it comes to using this micro-Leech Fly Fishing Strategy.

1) know the depth you want to fish. If you are fishing the weed bed, then find the depth of water at the surface of the brush. If you are bottom fishing, then find the real depth. If you leave the line just to sit down, start the meter 1 foot deep.

2) If you're casting and recovery, extending the lead in the strike indicator on the 1'-depth 2'more he intends to fish. When you start your recovery, ranging from very slow to slow, the line is level. If you catch the weeds simply put the indicator strike. I found that my success is better that my pace is fast enough to keep the straight hair.

3) If you are drifting or drag (slow), then the distance between the strike indicator and fly about 1.5 to 2 times the depth you intend to fish. This allows the angle of the leader. Again, adjust the indicator needs.

4) When you think of leeches, we believe that great things black. Well, what are the major blood leeches and although the fish feed the leeches also feed on small leeches we call micro-enterprises. In general, Leech a microphone will be larger than a size 8 Mustad 9672 (1.25 inches long) and as small as size 12 9672 (0.75 cm). Micro leeches actually be caught in shallow waters near the 3 'to about 20 meters deep. This fly pattern may or may not have a head of accounts in terms of depth you can fish. I tend to stay away from the head of accounts until I fish in more than 8 feet deep.

Note: I did not a large leech using this technique (you may have a strike indicator Jumbo). However, if someone tries, you are invited to share their experiences with others in the freshwater AC Journal (see below).

Kamloops Some of those lakes that have had success with this technique are: Bleeker Lake (my favorite), Campbell Lake, Rock Lake 6 miles from Lake and Morgan Lake.

Best success has been made in early spring and mid-autumn. My favorite colors of the micro leech are bent in black and red, peacock or dubbing Leech blood. This "fly fishing technique" is also effective using a damsel nymph pattern. Give it a try.
