What kind of fishing rod do I purchase?

I'm trying to get a fishing rod as a gift for my boyfriend for Christmas. He goes fishing in the Hamptons for fluke, flounder and snapper.. Does anyone know of any good quality rods/brands? Thanks!

I'm sorry to tell you this but fishing equipments could be very personal for some people. Different people prefer different fishing stuff. Buying fishing equipments for someone who fish could be quite difficult. Unless your boyfriend just picked up fishing recently and wasn't exposed to fishing long enough to develop any personal preferences yet, I wouldn't get him any fishing rod. You could spend a lot of time and efforts getting him a great gift (according to you that is), and there's still a big possibility that he will not like it. Luckily, guys' thought process and logics are a little different from girls. So, a "not so thoughtful" gift card will do the trick. There's a big chance that you might not like the gift card idea at all but most guys won't mind. You could also ask him what kind of gift he wants. Yes, this so straight forward, so not fun and there is absolutely no element of surprise at all. But once again, most guys won't mind. If you insist on getting fishing equipments, you could still do that. It is very possible that he'll tell you that he love it. Just don't be too disappointed if you found out that he uses that rod only when you're around.
