can peafowl be housed with chickens?
About 3 months ago i got a trio of 2 year old peafowl (one cock and two hens) when i bought them the breeder said that i shoudnt put them with my ducks or pheasants cuz the peafowl would kill them. I recently got 3 naked neck chickens and every time i open the door to feed the peafowl the chickens run into there cage. while the chickens are in the peafowl cage they seem to all like each other. the guy never said anything about peafowl not liking chickens but i dont wanna risk them dying. does anyone know for SURE if they can be together.
I rear several types pf poultry on a farm,they are all free range birds.Since they move around together during the day they have become quite tolerant of each other & i seldom notice hostility between them .I used to have seperate coops for chickens & peafowl as a matter of habit,until i noticed at closing time the peafowl would join the chickens in their coop ,no problems were faced so i decided on housing them together & i am glad to say they have been together happily in the the same coop,for a year or so.They are penned in dusk to dawn & move out to forage free range at day break . My advice to any one attempting a change in poultry rearing routine is to do it in stages if possible ,and to be vigilant,problems have to be faced if & when they crop up.
