Anglers Fly
Anglers Fly
Fly Anglers..Here are a few questions for you?
Do you consider yourself a "Purist"? What is your definition of a purist? If you do, why is it important to you?
I'm gonna put this to vote in a couple days as I think that there can be no bad answer to this.
As for myself..I am in no way, shape or form a purist. I am a utilitarian fly angler and I look forward to the next "Great" new fly tying material, rods. reels, etc. With the technology today( High modulus graphite rods, hi-tech fly reels with actual functional drags, state of the art fly lines, etc...purism in the sport is almost non-existant.(Or so I think.)
Thanx to all who answer this question.
Kevin, that is a loaded question, but very interesting and I'm sure you'll get many different types of responses, here's mine:
When I think of purist, I harken back to "A River Runs Through It" -
Dry fly fishing only for trout, with integrity and a code of honor.
My belief is that an "absolute" purist only fishes dry flies during a hatch and matches the hatch (RE: no attractor or generic patterns, quill body
Catskill style flies only).
Now I'm sure that there are many anglers out there today due to geographical location don't have access to this type of fishing.
That doesn't mean they are not purists. Perhaps they pursue
bass, muskie, pike, bonefish, and other species with the same
type of ethics, that in my belief makes them purists.
It's my belief that the code of honor (fishing fairly) and ethics
(proper manners) are what makes you a purist.
