I hope these tips increase your chance of catching Barramundi on Baits. In my previous article I gave tips on catching Barramundi on Surface lures. The response was so good , I have decided to write this Article.

Tip No1. Methods for Catching Live Bait

In my experience the baits I found extremely successful were Live Baits, These were obtained using a cast net or handline. All good Fishing and tackle shops have a good range of these.

Tip No 2. Looking for a good spot to catch your bait.

Steps in looking for a good spot to catch bait vary but the most success I have had is in areas where there is not to many snags to damage your net. There's nothing worse than arriving at a spot to only find the very first cast with your castnet lands on a snag and rips your castnet to pieces, sometimes that can be the end of your day of Fishing before it even starts.

Tip No 3. Arriving at your Fishing Spot.

So you have arrived at your fishing spot and you have evaluated your options, In the North of Australia. Saltwater Crocodiles are quiet common in these places, so its good to keep an eye out for any potential threats before you start. Splashing your castnet in the water can attract Large Saltwater Crocodile that have no fear of man, but generally the small ones are scared off.

Tip No 4. Catching Bait

Its a good tip to bring a bag of Chicken layer pellets or a loaf of Bread with you, as this can attract the local bait that the Barramundi may be feeding on. Just throw a couple of hands full of Layer pellets into the water, or Rip a couple of slices of bread in the water. It generally a good idea to wait for five to ten minutes before casting your castnet.

Tip No 5. What Bait will I catch

The bait you generally catch varies but in my experience. Most commonly caught are Mullet, Popeye Mullet, Cheribin (Giant Prawn), Striped Perch , Boney Bream, Tarpon or Archer fish are the most common.

Tip No 6. So you have some bait.

You have just casted your castnet into some pristine water and to your amazement your castnet is full of mullet and Cheribin. You will need a bucket with a lid and a livebait pump to ensure there survival. Using the water where you catch them is important in keeping them alive. A battery operated livebait pump is really handy in keeping your bait alive for extended periods.

Tip No 7. What Lines and hooks to use and setup.

Quality gear is premium. New Number 8 to 10 hooks. Mono Line 80lb to 100lb is advisable for handlines.

Handlines rigged with a bubble float to a sqivel. One metre under the surface is advisable as Barramundi are always looking for fish above them as they stalk them in the depths. I have found this method very good as you don't lose as much tackle as fishing on the bottom. Rigging your bait through the tail is the best method so the bait can swim naturally.

Tip No 8. Fishing rods.

Premium No 8kg to 10kg fishing rods and overhead reels are advisable when fishing on the bottom with a typical river rig. Don't forget to set your drag, as you may find your rod going into the river, and in the north its not advisable to go swimming after it.

How do you use a spinning reel fishing rod properly?

I recently started using a spinning reel fishing rod. How do I use it? The guy at the store explained it kinda vaguely since he didn't know exactly how to. I flip over the spinning part and grab hold of the line with my finger. When I cast I let go of the line. But when I cast it, it goes forward, and then comes back or stops letting out line. I haven't been able to cast it more than 15 feet.
Another thing is I repeatedly get bird nests the line on the reel always gets tangled. What am I doing wrong?

Jumbo, you problem sounds like you do not have enough line on the reel. The line needs to come all the way to the top of the reel, if it does not, it hangs up on the reel edge. You can cast very light weights when it is working properly. It sounds also that you were informed correctly about casting. Lost relationship is a term commonly used for fishing reels baitcasting. However, it can often be difficult and confusing to know what it means and what is important.

When referring to retrieve ratios cited number is in conjunction with the gears of the reel - often see something like a ratio of 2:1, 6:1, 7:3 ratio of the appointment. A lower weight rod <5wt. the reel should be nothing special so spend to much on it, its just for holding the line. Wich brings me to the line I have CV2 line from bass pro wich dose its job well. And for the fly all that veirys from river to river and from day to day so do the sizes of the flies. What exactly is a scud?

Hi, in fly fishing, there is a fly called a 'scud'. there are lots of different ones, actually. i see them everywhere (in the stores I mean), but what do they immitate in the water? is there a thing called a scud in the water? are there spin fishing lures that imitate them...? do they catch fish? when would you use one????

they imitate fresh water shrimp, the real thing is hard to see but they are around, you'll usually find them in shallow water with little to no current and next to cover (weeds, reeds ect) in still water they will be suspended in the water in rivers they tend to be in the cover and toward the bottom. really more of a lake bug but they are in rivers too. scuds can actually pass for several other things if the fish aren't being to selective (uncased caddis, dobson fly).

I've used them when I've run out of caddis nymphs, usually clipped the legs off though. I use them is slow runs, usually suspended below an indicator next to weed beds, they'd be good for lakes and ponds but I don't really fish them very much, rivers are more my thing. and yes they catch fish as long as that is what the fish are eating and you present them correctly.

The river in southern Missouri is one of the most pristine and beautiful country. Winding through some of the most beautiful hills and valleys of the Ozarks has to offer attractive pastoral is evident. The river flows entirely through the Ozark National Park Scenic waterways, leading to the development of riverbeds limited access and the public good. It is a flow float most popular fish in the country.

Brown trout can not reproduce at all in the river, even if they are heavily dependent. The river has several powerful Springs State Park in Montauk. Statewide trout regulations are in force, and no bait restrictions. Cafes are not stored at that location downstream, but many migrate upstream. Consequently, many more big brown river came to this area.

The area of White Ribbon can be divided into two distinct sections. The first section ISS 5 miles from Cedar Welch Spring Grove. Mexico Bass fishing is an awesome and ultimate experience because it has some of the best bass fishing in the world. By its good environment and productive resource of water, most anglers and travelers fish here. Here, you are just a few feet away from that 10 pound plus trophy beast.

Mexico has several huge lakes that are famed for their bass fishing. Some are well known, popular and can get crowded, while others are more off the beaten track and provide idyllic surroundings in which to take your bass fishing trip.

Catch a Texas Fishing charter and head down to the Gulf of Mexico, whether it is snapper, amberjack, tuna, sharks, grouper, or bullfish you can find it there. Catching a 12 to 15 pound bass is not uncommon on these waters. Catching 25 - 50 bass with a few over 5 pounds on a trip with Mike is not uncommon. If you want to take a trip on the Little Pee Dee River and catch 100 Black Fish and "Jacks" averaging 3 - 5 pounds, he can do that too!

Kissimmee is also close to Disney World, so you might want to hire a guide if you can get away from the theme parks for a day . Lake Okeechobee is known by many anglers for its big fish possibilities.

"What is it for?" is asked so often that one realizes utility is the first requisite of a basket. Strong and well-made and adapted to its place in the household it must be, and it should be beautiful and harmonious as well.

String Basket of Orange and Black Rattan

Materials:

16 24-inch pieces of No. 2 orange rattan,

9 or 10 weavers of No. 2 orange rattan,

3 weavers of No. 2 black rattan.

Sixteen twenty-four-inch pieces of No. 2 orange rattan are arranged in the centre, shown in Figure 1. The four-row beginning is woven, and when the centre is four inches in diameter the sides are rounded up, flaring them outward decidedly for an inch and three-quarters. An inch more is woven, drawing the spokes in gradually more and more and the spokes are bent in toward the centre. Two weavers of black rattan and one of the orange are then woven in four rows of triple twist, drawing them tightly. The ends of these weavers are cut about half an inch beyond the point on the circumference of the basket where the triple twist was started, and after wetting them until pliable each is run down between the weaving beside a spoke.

The border is made as follows: In the first row each pair of spokes is brought over the next two pairs, under the next pair and outside. The ends are drawn tightly, making the border open. In the second row each pair of ends is brought over the next pair of spokes and inside, where they are cut so as to allow each to lie against the pair of spokes in front.

Duster Case

Materials:

6 36-inch pieces of No. 2 rattan,

2 or 3 weavers of No. 00 rattan,

6 large dark-blue beads,

6 large iridescent beads,

A Japanese duster with silk top.

A Japanese duster with bamboo handle and top of soft silk cut in narrow strips is most decorative. It is of practical value, too, in keeping polished mahogany furniture free from dust. This quiver-shaped basket makes an appropriate case for it. Six spokes of No. 2 rattan thirty-six 1 inches long are crossed in the centre and bound twice with a weaver of No. 00 before the under-and-over weaving is begun.

A centre one inch in diameter is woven and then the spokes are wet and turned up with straight sides for two inches and a quarter. A dark-blue bead is slipped on to every other spoke, and the weaver having been pushed up through one of these beads, the end of another weaver is run down beside the next spoke on the right and two rows of pairing are woven. The spokes are then brought straight up without weaving for two inches and a half. Here a weaver doubled around a spoke is woven in two rows of pairing. Again the spokes are brought up straight without weaving for four and three-quarters inches, when a piece of weaver is doubled around a spoke and one row of pairing is woven. On every other spoke an iridescent bead is threaded and the weavers are brought up through two successive beads to be woven in two more rows of pairing.

Again the spokes are brought up without weaving for an inch and seven-eighths, when seven-eighths of an inch of pairing is woven and the following border made: In the first row each spoke is brought back of the spoke on the right and outside. In the second row each end is brought around back of the next spoke and outside, down by the weaving. As it is brought through in this way it lies close to another end, which it should precede, so that the next end to take will always be the back one of the pair thus formed. A ring to hang it by is made by passing a piece of No. 00 rattan, about eighteen inches long, back of two spokes between the last two rows of weaving and tying it into a ring. The ends are twisted in and out around the foundation ring twice, making three circuits, which complete it.

What is a good Fly kit/assortment to buy for freshwater fishing for an 8wt rod?

mainly for bass, peacock bass and some smaller fish like bluegill and cichlids.

I hate to be a "spoil sport" but purchasing "Fly kits" is never a good idea.

Why?

Usually, in a kit that has 6-8 Flys only 3 will end up "working".

In much larger kits, (like the ones Cabela's & Bass Pro Shop sell), you will find more that "work" but not enough for the kit to be a "bargain".

There are several types of bait that can be used for trout fishing, both live and synthetic, but it is the best? In this article I will use my twenty years plus experience trout fishing to answer this question. Although it is impossible to say bait is the best, you may list the trout bait they have always been productive for me. Then you can try to determine what type of bait works best for you.

By day's end that is what the best fishing bait for trout (or any other type of fishing) is the bait that works best for you. Anyway, if you know what to use for trout, while the primers for then serve you well when fishing for colorful fish known as the trout. If you have or have not used any of these baits fishing for trout, I suggest you add to your portfolio sooner rather than later.

1. Spinners - Spinners are a lure to use for trout. Generally speaking, you want to stay with small spinners. If you are fishing for large trout spinners you can use really big, but as a rule rather small spinners for trout fishing, 1 / 16-3 / 8 Oz spinners are good steps to start. Having a variety of sizes available, and try to find the size is more productive for a given day. The same rule applies to color wheel. Experimentation is the key. Dark colors like black and Brown has always seemed to be most productive for me personally. I also prefer gold spinners. Some spinners of quality are achieved by the two-tailed rooster and Blue Fox
2. Salmon eggs - Salmon roe bait may be ideal for this type of fishing, especially in the spring of the year for rainbow trout. Most rainbow trout spawn - in spring and eat the eggs of others. This is a good time to use salmon eggs as bait. We will attack in a series of hooks and allow eggs to flow naturally with the current of a river or stream is a tactic of trout fishing.
3. Worms - Worms are a very good bait for trout fishing. Both worms live and synthetic (like Berkley Power worms) are very effective. In fact, I been situations where worms are the most energy efficient to live. The most effective way to handle a worm is a strip of hook and how effective to carry live worms while fishing for trout is a JRW Bait bag. The bag of bait means that worms are always at hand, instead of the jacket fishing somewhere. This is a enormous time savings. If you want to know what to use to fish for trout, worms are a good place to start.

As I said earlier in this article all these baits are effective when fishing for trout. Their job is to find what works best for you and for the area you tendency to fish for trout. I have all the baits above in my fishing vest, so you can switch from one to another as needed.

Do they even check?

Oh yeah. Pilots do a weight and balance check before each flight. Some are automated, and some use a form with all the weights and a flight envelope. Usually, the maximum takeoff weight is determined by the runway length and temperature that day. Sometimes they have to remove passengers or even fuel to make the proper weight. Should I choose fly fishing vest or a chest pack to carry my fly fishing gear? This seems to be a common question that gets asked in many fly fishing forums and there are many opinions about this topic.

Both fly fishing vests and fly fishing chest packs have their pros and cons. It appears that everyone has their own specific reasons for choosing one style over the other and also a particular manufacturer.

There are several manufacturers like Simms, Colombia, Fishpond, Stearns and many others that offer good quality fishing vests and chest packs. Below is a list of things to take into consideration when making a decision between a vest and chest pack.

Fly Fishing Vests - Traditional or Mesh Vest?

Traditional vests are fine but can be too warm and uncomfortable to wear in hot weather. When fishing in warmer weather a mesh vest is a better choice because by design its breathable, will keep you cooler and more comfortable.

In the region were I fish, which has four seasons, I prefer a mesh over the traditional fly fishing vests because of its versatility. If you order a mesh vest one size up from the size you would normally wear you will be able to wear an extra layer of clothing underneath, like a wading jacket or rain gear. This will keep you more comfortable when fishing in colder or rainy weather conditions.

Other Basic Features to Consider When Looking For Fly Fishing Vest:

No matter what style fishing vest you decide on, an important feature to consider is does the vest have enough pockets to carry your flies, leaders, tippets, extra reels/spools, tools and other fly fishing tackle. Typically a vest should have at least 15-20 pockets and a variety of small, medium and large size pockets. Any more than that can add confusion in trying to figure out which pocket contains what you are looking for. Also the pockets should be designed so that they can easily be opened and closed with one hand.

Good quality fly fishing vests will also have things like D rings and rod loops are also great features to have.
